COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

jamestulloch (8616) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 6, 2024
UPDATED: APR 6, 2024 Bottle from The Beerhive. Dark brown body with a few flecks beneath a thin beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of liquorice and toffee. Flavour of prune and caramel. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A strong, tasty beer. It’s very good but having tried it immediately after Newbarns’ Thirteen Guinea, it was a distant second.

Roasty, mild smoke notes in the background. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Nice mouthfeel and texture, thick, soft, chewy. Goes down nicely, quite enjoyable. Nicely balanced bittersweet taste. Strong aroma, lots of alcohol, quite liquory. Wood notes, caramel, toffee. Syrupy, brown sugar. Dried dark fruits, figs. Chocolate and coffee notes, quite roasty. Bready notes in the background. Sticky. Long lasting finish, dry, bitter, lingering warming alcohol. Quite tasty.

MicroGrog (3249) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - JUN 2, 2023
UPDATED: JUN 2, 2023 Third De Struise beer I've seen on tap during my little visit to Orlando. Draft @RLRL. Cola pour, big oatmeal head, stemware. Clove, licorice, toast, diet cola nose. Taste is cola, clove, some licorice, maybe some other spice, but it's so bland & nothing compared to my bottle experience. Tried to warm it up, but it just wasn't there.

Monty27 (364) - GERMANY - MAR 20, 2023
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2023 This is beer. I got a bottle from 2021. There was not a lot of carbonation, the colour an attractive pitch black. Sweet raisin aroma, but also something heavier, earthing. Great blend of tastes, a real mouthful and almost oily. Licorice is strongest, but also raisin sweetness, coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. A decent hop bitterness in the background to make it perfect.
