BeerViking (9209) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 14, 2023UPDATED: FEB 14, 2023 Bottle from the Inbev Belgium 2022 advent box. It's a slight gusher so pours pale amber but a bit lumpy... Spicy fruity nose with banana notes, then boozy and sweetly warming, again spicy and lightly peppery, touches of banana, bitter orange and caramel. A very nice Witbier/Tripel crossover.

LagerGuide122 (909) - - SEP 15, 2022UPDATED: SEP 15, 2022 330ml bottle brewed in Belgium at 8.5%. Hazy orange with a decent-sized, OK-duration head. A little fragranced orange potpourri, a caramelesque bready malt, and some Belgian banana yeast in the aroma. Buoyant foaming carbonation, moderate, small-bubbled. A little orange peel character, developing into the aftertaste. Coriander adding depth. Banana and clove yeast flavours present but not dominant, balanced by the aforementioned respective ingredients. Honeyed doughy malt supports; hints of vanilla and pear emerge long into the aftertaste. I don't know whether this is an exact replica of Hoegaarden's Julius, simply with the addition of orange peel and coriander, but it's both similar to that beer and a distinct improvement, with the additional complexity importantly counterbalancing the sweet, syrupy nature of the brew - whether the glucose syrup on the label is the cause of that, I do not know. Much less simplistic and cloying than Julius, this deserves to be sold alongside the original Hoegaarden Witbier, although as a distinct second-fiddle to be sure - and make no mistake, those with something of a sweet tooth will like this Grand Cru as well. But it's no longer cloying, unbalanced and simplistic.
