ekstedt (8338) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 24, 2024UPDATED: JAN 24, 2024 Bottle shared with some other beer nerds, thx Alex. Shady copper, no head. Intense malty flavour, a bit alcoholic, sugary, with some barrel notes. Semi sweet, low bitterness.
mansquito (16843) - Nueva York, New York, USA - OCT 4, 2020UPDATED: OCT 4, 2020 Bottle from Clownesseuir: pours muddy brown with almost no head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, caramel, light fruitiness. Taste is sweet, lightly boozy, caramel, toffee. Delicate, but large and excellent.
explosivedog (12895) - New York, New York, USA - OCT 3, 2020UPDATED: OCT 4, 2020 Bottle, at share, thanks to mansquito. Pours black without head. Bourbon, vanilla, an almost rum and coke thing in the nose, raisin, plum, dried fig, bourbon finish. Slightly oily body. Remarkably smooth for the strength. Excellent.
mcberko (41923) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 7, 2020UPDATED: MAR 7, 2020 On tap at The Livery, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny beige head. Aroma is unsurprisingly intense, with heaps of bourbon barrel character dominating, with some underlying toffee and dark fruits that are mostly covered by the bourbon. Flavour is an intense bourbon bomb, showcasing those beautiful bourbon barrels, with plenty of vanilla, followed by dark fruits, molasses, and treacle. Very sweet, but the booze prevents it from becoming cloying. Over-the-top but a pleasure to drink. Lovely.
blipp (14861) - California, USA - NOV 23, 2019UPDATED: NOV 23, 2019 Draft at the brewery. Very cool to finally be able to try this... this was in the top 50 when I first joined Ratebeer way back in 2007. Pours murky brown with a thin head. Very boozy and sweet, with banana bread, rich caramel sweetness, some toast, toffee, and a rich and sweet finish. Maintains some level of drinkability, but really this is meant to be a big and rich dessert beer. Good stuff, happy to finally be able to try it.
shrubber85 (15036) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - JUN 16, 2019UPDATED: JUN 16, 2019 Prune, cherry, banana, clove, caramel malt, bourbon, and hay aroma. Cloudy brown with minimal head. Very sweet raisin, banana, cherry, toffee malt, bourbon, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Excellent body and balance - bourbon gets stronger as it warms. Worth the wait.
Hopper8 (309) - Holland, Michigan, USA - JAN 26, 2019UPDATED: JAN 26, 2019 This is arguably in the top 5 beers I've ever had. The flavors are so insane and the texture of this beer is velvety. I adore it.
martjoobolut (9886) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - OCT 19, 2018Bottle, vintage 2017 (thanks Brandon!). Pours dark brown-black with beige brownish head. Aroma is very sweet, papery, wheat, vanilla. Flavor is sweet and bitter, bourbon, roast, wheat, booze, banana, vanilla, booze, and booze. Finish is sweet banana and massive booze. Overall: not a bad beverage, but way too boozy. I have tried 40+% ABV beverages that are less boozie than this... Also im not convinced that the base bock is really good to begin with.
