COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a BIG, jet-black beer delivering beautifully rich stout flavours of chocolate, and raisins with a roasty finish. In addition, they’ve added a heap of maple syrup to give a nutty, sweet character.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2020 BB 23/05/2020. From a can poured an opaque black (even under strong light) with 5mm and dark tan dense foam that retained very well and laced poorly. Carbonation low, slow and very fine. Aroma strongly of very sweet maple syrup with notes of toffee, dark fruits and dark chocolate. Taste moderately strong of roasted malt along with lots of very sweet maple syrup with hints of vanilla; moderate to strong sharp coffee bitterness balances the sweetness on the back palate. Medium body. Smooth and dry with a lingering bitterness.

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2019 New version from the can. Pours a jet but slightly transparent black with a big tan head. Aromas of roasted maple, some coffee and dark roasted malt. Taste was pretty big - plenty of roasted maple, coffee, vanilla and dark roasted malt. Body was on the thin side which seems to be the downfall of most Australian impies. A little more sweet maple would have been nicer too. Tasted a tap too burnt. I still very much enjoyed this beer

Pyobon (2840) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - AUG 13, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 13, 2019 (Can) Pours black with thin medium brown head. Big complex aroma - burnt toast and maple syrup, with notes of coffee, pipe tobacco smoke. Full bodied, sticky with plenty of fine creamy carbonation. The taste is full on and not for the faint-hearted. It starts off sweet and maple syrupy. This is pretty intense and it’s hard to pinpoint other flavours - maybe raisins, coffee and vanilla. This sweet foretaste steadily transforms to an intense bitter finish and aftertaste. It’s a burnt sugar / toast bitterness with some coffee and wood notes. In the mid palate and the start of the finish there’s some port notes and the only hint of the 12% alcohol. Very interesting, but a bit intense for me.

blaface (230) - Collaroy Plateau, AUSTRALIA - AUG 13, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 13, 2019 Can. Pours thick dark black with thick brown head. Aroma of chocolate and sweet toffee. Tastes like burnt toast that has been soaked in rum - very intense and fairly unbalanced

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2019 Not to be taken lightly. A big beer with a hard palette and strong aroma. Maple but not overly sweet. Chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, nutmeg, and some other stuff happening. Not creamy. Small head. One for sipping.

mcberko (42066) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 8, 2019
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2019 330mL can, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma is loaded with maple syrup upfront, followed by light vanilla, and a touch of cocoa. Flavour is wonderfully rich, with lots of maple syrup without it being sweetened, medium roasted malt, and a touch of vanilla. Lots of maple syrup upfront, with a medium roasted palate. Excellent.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2019 The Mountie sits at 12% but you can’t tell until you stand up after drinking it that it is actually 3 standard drinks. It smells like maple syrup, it has a super thick and smooth mouthfeel which you can taste raisins and chocolate. It is very sweet thanks to the maple, I just want to drink this over and over again.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2019 Aroma maple. Taste a liquor maple. Dense boozy, sweet stout. Warming tread lightly it’ll hit your head. You need a smoking jacket to drink this.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2019 This is like drinking Pedro Ximenez. It's black and thick on the pour. Lovely maple and coffee notes on the nose. You get a maple hit up front on the palate, then coffee, dark chocolate, dates, whisky, oak. At the end you get a sense of the alcohol but it's carried with an espresso bitterness. Very cool.
