Previously sold under various names, including "XX Porter" and "Extra Stout Porter" and "Extra Stout"
If you were in a pub sometime between 1821 and 1970, chances are this is the Guinness you would have been drinking. Originally brewed as the XX version of our Porter, it’s hoppy, roasty, and crisp, with a bittersweet finish.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2024 Better than the smooth version. More bitter, more flavour. Lingering coffee finish.

jonathan_reviews (404) - Preston, Lancashire, ENGLAND - MAR 13, 2024
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2024 440ml can Colour is a jet black colour with a four finger beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt, caramel, nutty notes, dark fruit notes, liquorice, coffee and quite sweet. Taste is of roasted malt, caramel, sweetness, liquorice, coffee, sugary and a mild bitterness. Quite a fizzy mouthfeel and light carbonation. Overall quite a lot sweeter and a harsher mouthfeel than the regular Guinness. Drinkable but definitely would prefer a draught Guinness.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2024 Kept passing by this bottle in Sainsbury's, realised I'd never had this version, so why not! Espresso coating, oats, malts. Less creamy than the classic stuff. Kinda flat, your dad's kind of stout, but that's alright by me.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2023 Keg (Frank Ryan's, Dublin). Pitch black color. Foamy head. Creamy, roast, mild bubbles, mild coffee in aroma/taste.

Rex_Remes (692) - Bonyhad, HUNGARY - AUG 4, 2023
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2023 (330ml bottle, Berlin. 04 Aug 2023) AROMA: ok nose, malt, mocha, chalk, some standard lager/beer notes too APPEARANCE: dark brown, opaque, thick tan dirty foam head TASTE: not super flavorful, light grain, coffee, dark chocolate, tiny bit herbal, bitterness is on the light side but it is kinda burnt and sharp (mostly in a good way since the beer is kinda light) PALATE: medium body, some oily creaminess, not much sweetness and mostly dry on the finish, the creaminess coats your mouth a bit and light bitterness does linger OVERALL: not great but better than i expected for 4.1% ABV. a tad on the light side, so this is kind of a 'session stout' that you can drink on a hot summer day (or after the gym, as I am doing today). solidly average.

shawnmurphy (2288) - Plattsburgh, New York, USA - AUG 2, 2023
UPDATED: AUG 2, 2023 On tap at Darkey Kelly's pub in Dublin, Ireland. Pours blackish brown with lots of nitro bubbles that settle to a 1/2' super creamy light brown head and lots of lacing. Aroma: peat, molasses, burnt toast. Flavor: molasses, brown sugar, toast, black pepper, chocolate, coffee. Mouthfeel: light-bodied, creamy yet dry finish. My wife and I had Guinness on tap at many pubs in Dublin and this was the place with the best pour, which I attribute to the cleanliness of its taps. Note that having a Guinness at its Open Gate Brewery was equally good.

guzgorog (1832) - Lille, FRANCE - JUL 15, 2023

Leighton (33714) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 8, 2023
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2023 Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up From Waitrose. Pours clear brown with a big, frothy tan cap. Medium sweet flavour with bready toasted mats, a little cocoa and coffee, mellow ashy roast, light earthy bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Decent balance to finish, more semi-dark malt character, cocoa, mellow coffee. Easy-drinking beer.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2023 Bottle. A- Roasty, char, cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, beige head. T- Roasty, slightly bitter, cocoa. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish. O- Really I suspect this is what Guinness tastes like without the nitrogen influence. Okay.

leszke (1342) - Wroclaw, - APR 1, 2023
UPDATED: APR 1, 2023 Bardzo lekkie, praktycznie bez gazu. W zapachu delikatnie kakao, w smaku dominuje również kakao w typie mocno gorzkiej czekolady, nic więcej się tu nie dzieje. Stout taki, jaki być powinien.
