dflb (635) - California, USA - JAN 30, 2024
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2024 Purchased at El Cerrito Liquor from Corona, California for $17.99, Berserker is an imperial stout with maple syrup and molasses, and aged in bourbon barrels brewed by Midnight Sun Brewing Company from Anchorage, Alaska. The scent of chocolate, roasted malt, maple syrup, molasses, espresso, red wine, dark fruit, and vanilla are noted as you drink. The appearance is pitch black that pours a low tan head that dissipates gradually with a minimal circular retention remaining and similar lacing. When held up to light, no light shines through. Dark mahogany shows when light reflects off the surface of the beer. The alcohol content is 12.7%. Chocolate is fairly rich, malty to the touch, and deepened by roasted malt. Molasses slightly syrups the drink, thickens the body, and applies a brown sugar tint and tinge to the malty comprehension. Maple syrup melds with the malty and molasses tandem, accompanied with a vanilla tone, and lingers upon the mouthfeel during the relatively dry finish. Oak imparts a charred tint that blends with the malty, molasses, and maple syrup combination. Espresso lightly bitters the take, and paints the chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, and charred composition. Bourbon subtly boozes the drink, warms the beverage, and administers a licorice spice to the finish. Shiraz wine gives off black cherry, blackberry, and tobacco hues to the chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, and char mixture. Prunes are discernible with the Shiraz, molasses, and char notes. Raisins are sensed during the chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, and bourbon finish. Berserker is a voluptuous barrel aged imperial stout. Chocolate and roasted malts, molasses, maple syrup, vanilla, oak, bourbon, Shiraz wine, prunes, and raisins merges into a glamorous craft beer. Molasses, maple syrup, and bourbon make it easy to drink this libation as espresso bitters the take. The Shiraz wine is jammy, intertwining with the molasses and maple syrup upon the malts, bourbon, espresso, prunes, and raisins. The malty, molasses, maple syrup, and jammy wine composition moderately weighs the body, which is accented by espresso. Chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, charred oak, tobacco like Shiraz wine, licorice infused bourbon, and raisins leaves a lasting impression upon the relatively dry finish. I cherished every single drink, and enamored by the jammy wine, molasses, and maple syrup combination upon this barrel aged imperial stout. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. 11/05/2018 (22 fl oz bottle):. Midnight Sun Berserker Imperial Stout (ale brewed with maple syrup & molasses and aged in oak bourbon barrels)... Big aroma of vanilla and bourbon, complemented by chocolate, aged cherry, cocoa, alcohol and black walnut; oily black color, thin brown crown; lots of depth starting with vanilla and caramel moving to bourbon throughout, chocolate, molasses, dry alcoholic finish; medium to medium full body, smooth, a bit if a milky mouthfeel; damn big, but quite enjoyable.
