COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A recently created style in the USA, Icon 2IPA is made in the American/Imperial Indian Pale Ale Style. Icon 2IPA is an extreme beer - extensive hopping creates intense citrus/passionfruit/peppery characters in the flavour and aroma balanced by sweet biscuity malt, which finishes with full bodied, rich and with a rounded bitterness. At 7.5% alcohol, Icon 2IPA is a beer to be savoured.

Great cloudy golden Amber colour with a frothy white head. Fruity, hoppy, citrus aroma. Very bitter but balanced with good malt and plenty of spice too. Light in the mouth and even watery. Long resiny and fruity finish. A great beer. It might have been the first IPA I ever had and it’s great to see it back in business and better than I remember.

330ml bottle at Matt’s. BB 28/12/2016. Aroma is slightly sweet with tropical fruits notes. Taste is slightly strange with piney hops bitterness and some funkt notes. Just not bad.

Tasting at Matt’s; BB 281216
Cloudy amber color. Light colored caramel aroma and flavor, a very strong presence of vegetables, tomatoes, celery, moderate sweetness, some hop resins.
Messy, and frankly old.

330mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange amber with a small beige head. Aroma is a mix of tropical fruits, earthy and resinous hops, and caramel malt. Flavour brings out tropical fruits, booze, resinous hops, and a little caramel. Fruity and boozy; it’s not terribly well-integrated, but it’s quite drinkable. Solid.

This beer looks exactly like an IPA should. Golden amber, a touch cloudy but still mainly transparent. A nice foamy head that stays as you drink through it. The nose is a heavy bouquet of different hops, bitter even on the nose, but not unpleasantly so. A little grapefruit, some malty biscuit hard to identify any particular scent. The taste is equally complex, a nice fruity citrus front that carries through, but is joined with a thick pleasant bitter hop kick. Overall an excellent, fairly well balanced IPA. Not sure I’d quite consider it an Imperial IPA though, it’s light in flavour for an imperial, or heavy for a standard IPA.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2023 Rating from old records: from bottle in IPA glass. A nice old school DIPA as today they all seem to be 8% plus.

A wonderful aroma of American hops comes through this thick head. Must have a very complex bill of hops because you cannot identify individual hops rather a range from citrus, to cracked pepper spiciness. No overt grapefruit or fruity esters and a good malt balance. Love it.

330ml bottle BB Dec 16. Deep amber with small tight beige head. Big passionfruit notes in the aroma, with pine, some orange citrus, caramel, fresh baked bread. The taste has nice caramel malt sweetness and light bready toastiness, balanced with pine, resin, grassiness, tangy grapefruit citrus, a little passionfruit. Bitter finish. Medium bodied, fairly low carbonation. Really solid DIPA.
