Commercial Description:
Redoak's India Pale Ale has been brewed to the tradition of Burton-on-Trent in England, with 10 times the amount of our Organic Pale Ale. The English Kent, Goldings and Fuggles hops have resulted in a fresh fruit aroma, lovely mouth coating and a huge back bitterness. The caramel malt flavour and big back bitterness continues to linger.

Draught at Redoak, Sydney. I think the ratings here may have got mixed up with the American IPA that was on earlier in the year. Anyway they are two completely different beers. This one is based on the classic English style IPA and a it’s very good one at that. It has a finely balanced malt character of caramel and biscuit and the English hops do well for support - fruit and resiny. A good hop presence and a nice punch of bitterness but pleasant enough on the palate. Dry and bitter finish. A very nice IPA.

Tap. Delicious and strong. Aromas of grass, fruit, and caramel. Flavour is long-lasting, sweet start with a bitter ending. Silky in the palate, and medium body. Orange in colour, with a creamy lasting head.

Nice balanced IPA. Aroma of the Fuggles comes through, the appearence is copper with thin head. Flavour is a nice initial burst of malt sweetness with some almost raisiny character coming through. Finish is nice and bitter but not too over the top. Certainly a classy IPA against some of the brutish IPA’s out at the moment.

Had this one during my holiday in Australia april/may 2009. Red colored brew. Citric, lemon, hoppy aroma. Floral, hoppy flavor. Lemon, aftertaste hoppy. Bitterness is longlasting.

As much as I liked the baltic porter this one was the pick of the day. Good head, body and lacing. Quite enjoyed this aroma - fruity hops - roses to Jenny. Taste is well balanced , medium bitterness with good malts in the background and a touch of sweetness on the finish.

I had a lovely couple of sessions at the Red Oak in Sydney. Unfortunately I lost my notes but I can report that all the beers I tried were perfect examples of their respective style. The aroma, flavour, mouthfeel, malt and hoppyness is exactly what you would imagine from reading standard guidelines. Very well crafted and very tasty, but a bit to predictable to be outstanding. This was really good, fresh and zingy.

On tap at Redoak. I have a poor memory for such things, but possibly the best IPA I’ve had. One of those styles I’ve always wanted to like, but quite often the balance is just off, and the aftertaste unpleasant. This one just seems to have the weighty punch needed at first sip, which instead of dying away suddenly, really lasts all the way to the finish, taking an even trajectory on its trip. Huge black bitterness is right... couldn’t have put it better myself marketing men.

Hazy amber colour. Piney, minty, grapefruity hop nose. Moderate bitterness is herbal and earthy. Dry, woody finish. There’s balancing caramel throughout. A well-structured, highly drinkable brew.
