LowBrau (297) - Tonawanda, New York, USA - APR 11, 2022UPDATED: APR 11, 2022 Opaque reddish brown with a light tan head. Nose is caramel/dark malt. Roasted malty notes balanced with some bitterness and herbal/spicy notes (licorice). Medium body.
ozzatoadisback (644) - ITALY - FEB 5, 2022UPDATED: FEB 5, 2022 Pours light to mid brown, a bit murky. Average sized off-white head, good enough retention and a bit of lacing. The aroma shows a very nice malty depth, with a half roasted, half caramel base, plus nutty and maybe biscuity notes. A slightly balsamic herbal touch and maybe a hint of spiciness too. Pretty good intensity and nice definition. Taste notes: deep, soft malty base as the smell suggested (caramel, roastiness and nuttiness in good balance), with an earthy feel on the back of things. There's light fruitiness (ripe pear) and a half herbal/half balsamic feel in finish and aftertaste. Medium to high sweetness, medium bitterness; a slight sweet edge in the mouth and a balanced finish. Nice intensity and definition. Sort of 'rustic' but still polished. Medium to dense bodied with medium carbonation, resulting in a semi-full, quite lively mouthfeel. Not that I have that much experience with historical beer recreations, but this feels much more like a vintage/classic (meaning 20th century) take on a belgian bruin. Nonetheless, a very interesting, quite rich and well made beer.
