UPDATED: NOV 28, 2023 Bottle at the pigs ear beer festival 2023. A clear cola brown coloured pour with a lasting cream head. Aroma is semi sweet, spicy woody. Twig, meaty roast. Jammy fruit. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, cola cubes, woody roast, vanilla, twiggy, jammy fruits, cola cubes, light tang, spicy balsa. Palate is tannin, semi sweet, highish carbonation. Good.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2023 500ml bottle at Pig’s Ear Beer Festival, Hackney. Very dark ruby. Nose of liquorice and dark malt. Light root beer flavour. Fairly crisp. Doesn’t taste like 8%

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2023 500ml bottle. Pours opaque black with a tall beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, smoke. Taste is dry, roasted malt, coffee. Medium bitter finish. Full bodied.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2023 Draught at Grand Delancey: draught black with white head. Aroma is chocolate, soy sauce, light fruit. Taste is sweet, dry bitterness. Some lingering aftertaste.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2023 500ml bottle as part of a delivery from Beers of Europe and drunk at home. It's damnm near black, with a small beige/khaki head. Malty aroma, a fair hit of liquorice and a little bit of roasted almond. Bittersweet taste, more liquorice, some molasses, horehound. Quite medicinal in the finish. Thin body, carbonation minimal. I want to like this more than I do. It's half a step up from just okay.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2022 Ridgeway Foreign Export Stout has a thin, beige head and a very dark-brown appearance, with no lacing. The aroma is of dark-roasted barley malt. The taste is of that element, with raisins and dates. The bitterness and sweetness are relatively low. Ridgeway Foreign Export Stout has a medium body and a mostly-dry finish. RJT

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2022 Appearance: Opaque deep brown with a perfect ivory-coloured frothy head. Aroma: Roasted barley, coffee, dark chocolate, toasted malt, cream. hop. Taste: Medium dry, roasted, hoppy, light to medium bitter. Further coffee, toast, floral notes. Lingering hoppy ending. Mouth feel: Medium plus body, fine carbonation. Summary: Good.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2022 500ml Bottles from Beers of Europe Webshop and Open All Hours, Keswick. Sampled in 2022 and 2007. Black-dark brown with a thick tan head of foam. It has a rich liquorice flavour with coffee, vanilla and a roasted, slightly smoked, chocolate and smooth pine finish.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2022 Аромат отличный для стиля. Есть бархотистость от шоколадки и и намеком на зерна кофе, легкая сладость, небольшая кремовость стаутная. Цвет черный, пенка небольшая кофейная. Вкус умеренно сладкий, легкая кремовость снова, даже маслянистость. При глотке даже намеки на бобы, снова шоколадка. В целом в стиль и очень хорошо.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2021 Bottiglia. Al naso arrivano impressioni di caffè e cioccolato. L'intensità olfattiva è elevata e il modo in cui permane è apprezzabile. Il mantello birroso superiore resiste poco. La grandezza delle bollicine è a grana fine. Il colore è scuro impenetrabile. Il corpo è pieno. Il dolce è medio in buon equilibrio con l'amaro medio. La forza gustativa è elevata e la durata è buona. Le sensazioni boccali finali risultano di birra beverina. Il retrogusto è di decente intensità. Sul palato si riportano indizi di caramello, miele, crosta di pane, cioccolato, caffè, liquirizia e vino rosso.
