Commercial Description:
In the little town of Bavay, only a few miles from the border with Belgium, the Theillier family has crafted its fine bière de garde for generations. The charming brewery is built into the Theillier family home, which was constructed in the 1600’s on sturdy Roman foundations. La Bavaisienne is artfully brewed, in very small batches, using a resourceful combination of ancient and modern equipment.

In short: A mega-rustic amber Ale with a strong barnyard character. An acquired taste
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when 6+ months of age. One of the many bottles sent to me by MrChopin, thanks a lot Kevin
The look: Cloudy golden blonde body topped by a medium beige head
In long: True barnyard nose, dirty, cheesy, wet fur, musty. Taste is very yeasty, earthy, ripe banana peels, leather, old wood barrel, whole-wheat bread, apricots, graham cookies. The beer is also quite hoppy with plenty of leafy hops with a tobacco leaves character. Oily sensation. Medium dry, very mild bitterness, light-medium acidity. One of the most rustic barnyard beer I’ve had. The beer is not very tasty, I could have done without the acidity (didn’t work here) but overall this is a very complex beer. This is a very nice brew. I’m afraid that the French will one day brew the best beer in the world, the one thing they don’t brag about.

Colore ambrato.Schiuma bianca, abbondante, spumosa e persistente. Aroma ottimo di luppolo. Buon corpo maltato, con lungo e aromatico finale, in cui dolcezza e luppolo si alternano. Grande.

750 ml. Big, frothy, off-white head, long lasting. The body is cloudy amber. Aroma of caramel, cookie, flowers, mustiness with notes of peach, orange and earthiness. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. The caramel notes remind me of an English ESB. Nice dry bitterness in the finish that overtakes the sweet caramel and fruit. Clean, easy drinking. Solid.

Well carbonated dark copper-amber. Big head. Light clean nose; light earth and spice with a faint fish scent. Earthy caramel and base metal flavour. Lots of caramel in the finish and aftertaste.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of malts, honey, grains, light hops, and light yeast. Poured orange/deep amber in color with a small, loose, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of cocoa, malts, grains, light yeast, slight caramel, slight honey, light hops, some earthiness, and some toasting. Medium body. Chalky texture. Average carbonation. Sweet, malt, grain, and slight yeast finish is chalky.
