Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is mild and slightly sweet, dark malts, caramel, dark sugar, chocolate, whiskey, oak, vanilla, coffee, grass. Taste is mild and sweet, dark malts, oak, dark sugar, chocolate, whiskey, grass, sour-ish coffee, vanilla, caramel. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice.

Rich and flavorful. Boozy cocoa coffee and maybe some nuts. Poured from 22oz bottle at home. Good stuff

Bottle during Tasting; dark brown pour with a thin dark tan head, aroma has really creamy chocolate malts along with bourbon, taste is really sweet, some bourbon, slick mouthfeel, really good.

Rating for 2017 barrel aged version. Press deep brown with a tan head. It has a full rich body with mild carbonation. The taste has smooth roast, vanilla, milk chocolate, coconut, bourbon, caramel, toffee and crazy lushness. Beautiful beer.

On tap at Surly. Rating for 2017 version. Pours jet black with minimal khaki head. Scents of dark malts and fudge. Taste follows with heavy dark chocolate, some light vanilla, and coffee flavors. A little booziness but less than might be expected. Quite smooth with a full body. High quality imperial stout.

Bottle poured into a taster showing pitch black with quickly dissipating foam. The nose shows earthy hops with a light bourbon background. The palate is full bodied and lightly carbonated. Flavors of smoke and bourbon with a light rye spiciness. Bourbon caramel finish.

Bottle share at Tom’s. Big boozy aroma, slick and sweet. Dark black pour, small ring of dark beige head, slippery feel. Lots of alcohol heat, accents the nice rich roast malts. Molasses, coffee, etc. Nice.

September 19, 2015 - at Beaverton for the Rainbow event - draught. Even though I pretty much despise all bourbon, I was super stoked to finally get a chance to rate this one. Gorgeous beer - deep brown-black pour, with a large lasting brown head - doesn’t get much better than that. There’s a complex deep roast malt coffee/chocolate/herbal impy there, but wow is there a ton of bourbon overlaying it; oh well. Taste is better balanced - oddly sweet, with restrained alcohol. Syrupy, a bit still, a little too bourbony in the cloying finish - nice life to it - If I didn’t hate bourbon so much I would be about 4.2
