UPDATED: SEP 29, 2021 25 August 2021. Bar Beenhouwer Beer Quiz. Cheers to Ama, Jan & Peter! Cloudy black, thin, beige head. Aroma of vanilla, (burnt) meringue, marshmallow, macadamia, hazelnut, fondant sauce, mocha, dark fudge. Taste has very sweet date, plum & pear in a very sweet malt profile of fudge & chocolate sauce, bit sugary; bitter toasty undercurrent with spicy cinnamon notes on top. Herbal hoppy finish, spicy, roasted nuts & cinnamon toning down the ongoing sweetness of chocolate sauce; all mixing well with warming liqueur-like alcohol. Medium to full body, syrupy-oily texture, soft carbonation. Truly excellent mix of flavours; now where to get a full bottle...

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2021 Very well balanced, only beer I've drunk so far that brought in vanilla and cinnamon flavours that didn't put me off.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2020 Pours headless as motor oil, olive-tan coloured head slowly builds up, only to go again; deep black-brown beer. Sweet caramelly, vanilla, I crème brulée, Lierse Vlaaikes /I, cinnamon, gingerbread, chocolate. Again I Lierse Vlaaikes /I, gingerbread, speculaas herbs, chocolate fudge. Finish has some chili in it. Heat, alcohol, well-bodied, very slick to viscous, medium carbonation. I repeat the words of my co-taster: 'Coffee with too much sugar'. Meaning, too many additions to be really great. I Txs to Stef! /I

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2020 Gdzie tutaj jest to 11%!? Bardzo ciemne wpadające w czerń, gęste i oleiste. Piana znikoma, szybko znika. Aromat ciastka brownie, czekolada deserowa, cynamon w tle kawa. W ustach bardzo przyjemne, gęste. Słodkie, ciastko brownie z wyraźną czekoladą i cynamonem, wyczuwalny marcepan i troszkę orzechów. Fajna, wyraźna, ale nie gryząca czekoladowa goryczka. Alkohol bardzo delikatnie grzeje przełyk. Wysycenie niskie.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2020 Bottle. Pours jet black with a low, tan head. Deep aroma of praline chocolate, cinnamon buns, notes of coconut flakes. Taste is sweet, light to medium bitterness. Flavors of cinnamon buns, creamy chocolate, coconut flakes, brownie. Deep chocolate and brownie aftertaste with cinnamon all over. Medium to full body, smooth and somewhat oily texture, flat carbonation. What a blast! An extremely flavorful, aromatic, filling brew. A fitting demonstration of Maltgarden's brewing skills.

Alengrin (11063) - Gent, BELGIUM - MAR 25, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2020 Pastry stout ('sprinkled' with cinnamon) from this noteworthy player in Polish craft beer land, created in collaboration with Galea from Antwerp, Belgium. Comes from a 50 cl bottle, bought at The Beer Shop in Kontich. Medium thick, mocha-beige, creamy, thinning but generally stable head, pitch black robe. Complex, enticing bouquet of indeed cinnamon sprinkled over pan-frying apples, cinnamon rolls, milk chocolate, cupcakes, chocolate cake dough, pecan nuts, 'pepernoot', treacle, coffee powder sprinkled on a dessert, coffee liqueur touch even, marmite, molasses, crumbled cookies, black peppercorns, hints of salmiak, fudge, whipped cream, dried coconut flakes and bayleaf. Sweet, dense onset, fig, ripe pear, blackberry coulis and sweet ripe blue grape aspects, sugary as well but nothing cloying, softly carbonated with a very thick, viscous, creamy, syrupy mouthfeel. Thick, thoroughly fugde-like, toffeeish, pecan-nutty 'body' with a deep chocolatey dimension to it as well, edged by lots of cinnamon accentuating the sweetness rather than adding wryness, but also with clove and black peppercorn spiciness as well as dusty, dried tea-like herbal notes and impressions of mocha ice cream, some or other coffee dessert and a touch of ashes. The cinnamon does support the roasty bitter aspect in the end as well, and so does a brown rum-like alcohol glow, creating an absolutely stunning bittering balance against the overall sweetness, more so than would be the case in a typical (say, Omnipollo) pastry stout; this 'dusty', earthy aspect also seems to be out of place in a pastry stout, but these aspects make this brew very distinct within the intended style and add considerable complexity. Thanks to these seemingly 'false notes', this beer has a lot more to show for than most of its more straightforwardly 'desserty' congeners, something I found truly astonishing; viewed this way, this may be one of the more distinct and 'difficult' pastry stouts I had to date, but also one of the most rewarding. I could not get enough of this nectar - this is cinnamon and fudge enough, as promised, but so much more, too... Truly wonderful, not sure if this amount of depth - not a typical aspect of pastry stout - was intentional, but in any case a masterpiece for me, I cannot but agree with the (probably partially quite patriottic) high scores given below. What an astounding discovery this was - and to think there is another version waiting... Wow.
