ClarkVV (13405) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 21, 2017Bottle number 15, drunk 6/10/17.
Dark ebony body of undetermined clarity, topped by a small, tan head showing moderate-to-low retention.
Nose is full of sherry and moderate oxidation, creating soy, peanut brittle but also the more refined tea, hazelnut and dry toffee character of a very old sherry. Smells surprisingly good, much better than most 10 year-old Imperial stouts. No metal or dirt, nor any autolytic character. Booze is controlled, despite it not seeming fudgey or cakey. Plentiful dark fruit with breathing/warming. No doubt a very well-brewed beer and if it was a sugar bomb, it’s certainly benefited from aging, as there’s little/no sign of it here.
Sticky, rich and chocolatey in the mouth with peanut, soy and cardboard showing through a bit more than in the nose. Still, it’s lightly carbonated and controlled on the alcohol, with big fig, raisin, plum and tobacco notes and moderate sherry on the finish. Quite a good one, and glad I got to try it even if it’s past its prime.

Oily black, small bubbly brown head. Aroma is sweet molasses, soy, dark cherry, plastic, red wine, chocolatey. A bit too meaty sweet for me. Body is big and oily, smooth, rounded, soft carbonation. Taste is sweet port, chocolate, salty, barrel, red wine, a bit medicinal in the finish. I love the intense flavour of this - the salty medicinal vibe cuts through the sweetness. A memorable beer.
