COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 2008, Stone Brewmasters Steve Wagner and Mitch Steele traveled to Belgium, where they enjoyed a number of hop-forward Belgian tripels, pale ales and IPAs—beers that had taken a cue from the U.S. craft brewing movement and inspired us in return. It’s a big reason 2008’s summer season came to be known at Stone as our “Summer of the Triple.” Upon their return, they crafted Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale, the seventh beer in the 11-beer Stone Vertical Epic Ale series. Packed with floral, spicy essence from Belgian yeast plus plenty of hoppy New World character, it’s our West Coast take on hop-driven Belgian beers.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2021 So I got this back in 2008, didn't like one of the vertical epics so I haven't drank any of them. Need something different so going to try these. The aroma is light spices, some hint of Belgium (bubble gum) yeast. Pours a clear copper orange with small white head, almost fully diminishing and good laving. The taste is mild, non-descript, not much happening here. The body is medium, the texture a slight creamy, the carbonation average and the finish meh. Nothing great nothing bad, glad it's not a drain pur just not much to it.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2021 So, this is a rating for the original 08-08-08 released over 12 years ago. It was well cared for and properly cellared, but unlike some of the previous (and older) releases, this one doesn't appear to have fared as well. This has almost no carbonation left (the bottle says it 'sports a thick creamy white foam') and has a fairly strong juicyfruit gum aroma. It's a somewhat murky medium yellow/orange color and there's a good amount of sediment in the bottle. The taste actually isn't bad, kind of like a barleywine with some orange and more of that juicyfruit taste. It was mentioned in the description on the bottle that this was fairly heavily hopped, so I think a lot of what was probably delicious hoppiness has broken down over the years and is now kind f a muddled mess. Every once is awhile you get a little whiff of Belgian yeast and what this probably tasted like when I was supposed to have drunk it about 8 years ago. Leaves a strong honeyed sweetness and bitterness on the sides of the tongue. My bad for waiting so long on this one. I'm not worried about rating this poorly since there are over 1000 other ratings, so this will get lost in the noise.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2020 Quarantine Beer #108 from original batch sampled at home on 05/02/2020. The beer is a clear orange-gold color with a medium bone white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, citrus, herbs and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of herbal yeast, citrus, spice and grainy malt. The finish is fruity with a candied orange and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

22 oz bottle aged 3 years. Nice Belgian flavors are the first thing that is present. The hops are quite old and have an off flavor. Little bit of sugar and green tea flavors.

22 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Clear and bright amber colored body topped by a semi-durable, white head. Decent lacing. Aroma: citrusy hops, biscuits, spicy Belgian yeast, soft ripe fruits and a hint of funk. Flavor: Very fruity with notes of banana, generic soft ripe fruits, toasted white bread, nutmeg and clove, Hop bitterness is mild-moderate. Medium body with lively carbonation; pleasant dry finish. Overall: a very good Belgian IPA.

Bottle. Musty yeast, light lemon, biscuit malt, and hay aroma. Slightly hazy golden yellow with small white head. Moderately sweet lemon, milky biscuit malt, yeast, and moderately bitter/astringent fresh hay flavor. Good body. Nice, straight forward.

Draft taproom. Pours gold with a good sized off white head. Aroma is creamcicle all the way - orange candy, cream, childhood memories. Flavor is very similar, but a bit on the bitter side with orange rind and peel, grass. Tasty!
