13 oz. corked and caged bottle with a 3-D ram label, complete with the old school red and blue film glasses with the stylish cardboard frame. Aged in the bottle about a year. This is one of the coolest packages I’ve ever seen on a beer. A vigorous pour yields a thick, cloudy, burgundy to mauve colored body with a thin layer of smooth, tan foam. Fat, wet spots of lace slowly meander back down towards the body, displaying their hefty viscosity all the while. The nose resonates with sweetness, notes of burnt honey and scorched caramel showing amidst an onslaught of dark, malty fruits, including loads of fig, dark raisin, dates, and prunes. A slight hint of cocoa lends just a touch of chocolate roast, while hints of boozy vanilla and appropriate oxidation add a layer of complexity. The flavor is massively fruity, again showing a diverse blend of stewed raisins, figs, and various other sweet, dark fruits. Cocoa brings in an earthy element, while a dark honey component adds a booziness reminiscent of Empire Royal Mead. Traces of molasses even bring in a touch of smoke. Oxidation again shows on the warming finish, which lingers in the throat for a good while. The palate is full and sweet, initially sticky, ending with a slightly chalky sensation that reduces the cloying feel to a manageable level. Overall, this is a mighty fine after dinner or dessert brew. Far too big for everyday drinking, it’s something I’d gladly split with a friend or two on rare occasion. As an aside, this brew makes for a killer companion for chocolate or vanilla ice cream in a float!

375ml corked and caged from riversideak. Slightly murky cola color with a thin ring of a head. Sweet fig, chocolate, roasted peat with a touch of hickory smoke and some kind of jamminess with warmth from the abv going on. Sweet smokey candied pecan, dried cherry, dark sweet bread, cola, prune, raisins...really smooth for the abv. Man, this isn’t a style I seek out but this is awesome! Thanks Alex.

Bottle. Dense burgundy color, cloudy, unfiltered, thin tan ring of carbonation on top. Rich and malt-forward nose, dominat notes of toffee, brandy and honey. Full bodied, syrupy and thick, overly sweet, excessive sugar but it balances well with the body and present itself as a dessert sipper. Alcohol not dominant at all, rare to find in these days of super-alcohol mess-terpieces.

Bottle. Pours brown with a tan, dissipating head. Smells of wine, oak, dry malt, chocolate, earthy, earthy. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, toffee, molasses. Alcohol is masked well on this one.

Nice darker brown color with a small head. Aroma is big and sweet with some roast and candy, sweeter breads, and a whole coffee house dessert tray. Flavor is quite sweet with some caramel, toffee, brown sugar, sweet roast, coffee, and candies. Nice feel. A really good one from Iron Hill that should not be missed!

Got to sample a smidge of this at a beer gathering this evening (4/1/09). Colour... dark amber and slightly clouded with a light tan head. Nose... decidedly burnt toffee, creme brulee and caramel with a hint of booze. Palate... light carbonation, mouth-coating, luxurious, Scottish toffee, turbinado, dark fruits, yeast, Christmas cake. A wonderful triple bock that’s a joy to drink!

Bottle... Poured ruby with a tiny head. Boozy and grainy aroma. Lots of dark fruits and spices. Acidic finish which was very sugary.
