2 finger head sticks around leaving significant lace atop a crystal clear honey colored brew. The nose is fairly malty with quite a bit of spicy hoppiness combined well with some yeasty esters.. a little bit of pear.. The flavor is surprisingly "Belgian" .. spicy both from yeast and from hops.. a little bit of citrus in the background.. but not enough to detract.. bready pale malts tie this together sorta loosely.. could use a bit more spice to really bring it up another notch.. the body is pretty much spot on.. so is the carbonation.. I like the drinkability .

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2011 Bottle: Golden, clear, thin sudsy white head, sparce lacing.   Barnish mustiness, a little cardboard, has that American Belgian aspect that never sells well.   Mealy maltiness, musty, slight cardboard, comes across as a very weak triple because of the breadiness.   Has a bit of "mash" quality.   For a Belgian Ale it seems pretty heavy.   Comes across as a weak American Tripel crossed with a standard Belgian plus some gym socks.   Seems a little corny too.   Meh, a mish mash of stuff, Belgian, Tripel, socks, and corn.   Not one of the better Brewmaster releases.   I prefer that they stick to American styles.   Not bad, just not worth having again.

Sometimes I think this site must just eliminate ratings...or I had too many to remember to right it down...but I’m going with the former. This was a nice spicy Belgian beer. This series is really the best offerings from Widmer...not a big fan of the regulars.

19-May-09 (12-oz bottle) I can’t say I’m a fan of the Widmer lineup in general, but the "W" releases always seem to be the most interesting. W’09 is a spicy Belgian ale, hazy-golden in color with a smallish, white head that settles to a thin ring. The nose is spicy and sweet with some clove in there, but it’s also grainy and somewhat cheesy. Moderate, candy-like sweetness, clove, bubble gum, pepper and other spices hit the palate running and remain the principle flavors through to the finish while the grainy and bready malts set the base. The beer is medium in body and medium-high in carbonation, and the sweetness is offset by the spicy, zesty mouthfeel and gentle tartness for reasonable balance and drinkability. Overall, a simple but pretty decent Belgian golden ale, very drinkable, yet fun and interesting to drink.

Nice flavored Belgian style ale. Easy drinking and very much Widmer style. Great job Widmer.

Light gold with a small off-white head. Aroma is of grain. Taste is of citrus, grain and yeast.

(12oz bottle, courtesy of mar) Pours a clear golden body with a small white head. Aroma of orange, pineapple, and banana. Flavor of coriander, citrus, candi sugar, some clove, and wheat.

bottle graciously provided by mar. poured a dark yellow with no head to speak of. aroma was lemon and pear. flavor was wet hay and lemon with a light body.

Bottle thanks to mar. The look is clear, white head, and golden in color. The smell is peanut sheets, fruits, and yeast. Weird. The taste is wheat, watery, nuts, and malts.
