UPDATED: FEB 19, 2024 Sampled on tap at Max's Belgian Fest 2024 is a clear caramel brown with a clump of white head. Nose has caramel and candy and dates and spice. It's big. Flavor proves that. Dates and raisins and cloves and caramel and malt and candy. Full bodied and sticky on the finish.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2024 Mistakenly ordered the 750ml: going to be a long night... Another volcanic ale, waiting for the head to go down... Nice dark red with a strongly lacing head. Not a very strong nose on this: maybe it's the persistent head that's suppressing it. Dark malts, sweetness, liquorice, dried fruits. Very boozy taste in the mouth and in the throat. Dark malts, raisin, dark fruitcake, liquorice in the mouth. Long lingering aftertaste. Good

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2023 Bottle into goblet. Thin head on dark ruby - mahogany colored beer. Aroma of typical Belgian Xmas ale - but not very pronounced. Some candy fruit and fruit cake and malts. Similar taste with a few bubblegum notes - but not full of added spices which is nice. Not over the top, but also does not jump out as something particularly remarkable. UPDATED: DEC 16, 2023 Poured chestnut body tan lace top. Aroma of spice and chocolate malts. Medium sweet to bitter with lots of layers cinnamon cloves chocolate toffee cake. Medium bodied smooth texture average carbonation and bitter finish. The best this season so far.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2023 Stærk Brown ale med et meget smukt hoved. Desværre en anelse bismag af glas, der dog dør ud jo længere tid øllen har trukket. Ellers er aromaerne rosin, dadel og karamel. Det er en fyldig, low carbonation med en sød finish

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2023 Das Corsendonk Christmas Ale habe ich in der Vichyflasche bei der Bierothek besorgt. Es kommt schwarz und mit grobporiger, üppiger aber schnell verschwindender Krone ins Glas. Der komplexe Geruch beinhaltet Schwarzbrot, Sherry, Karamell, Whiskey und Trockenobst. Beim Antrunk süss mit deutlicher Alkoholnote, geringer Rezenz bei wuchtigem, starkem Körper. Das Bier fliesst wie Öl und hat geringe Carbonität, das die Alkoholbitterkeit aber ausgleicht. Neben den genannten Aromen ist Portwein zu entdecken - noch ein Aspekt mehr. Beim Abgang bitterer von den Röstaromen und dem Alkohol - Hopfen kann ich nicht erkennen. Den Bezug zu Weihnachten erkenne ich nicht - es ist aber ein ordentliches Strong Ale.
