COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Once again Carlsberg’s Jacobsen Brew House in Copenhagen Denmark raises the bar for brewing, by launching the second brew in its Vintage trilogy. Vintage No. 2 is sold for the price of DKK 2009 (more than 250 Euro or $345) a bottle, and only 600 bottles of this exclusive beer are brewed. Vintage No. 2 is one of the world’s most expensive beers, and is created together with the controversial Chilean born artist Marco Evaristti. Together they are uncompromising in their way to setting new standards. Vintage No. 1 was launched a year ago and created interest all over the world. “With the Vintage trilogy we want to push the boundaries for what a beer can do, and to challenge the luxury wine segment in the gourmet restaurant market by utilising our innovation and brewing capabilities”, says Morten Ibsen, Brewmaster at Jacobsen, who in cooperation with four other brewmasters has developed the Vintage No. 2. Vintage No. 2 has, as the only contemporary beer, been matured in J.C. Jacobsen’s original crypt-like cellar from 1847 where it has been stored in French oak casks for 100 days. The beer has a jet-black colour and espresso-like foam. And it reveals flavours of vanilla and cocoa/mocha. The aroma is distinct with hints of tar and ropes, which come from the peat-smoked, Scottish malt, which has been transported from Scotland solely for this brew. Vintage No. 2 is perfect pairing for oysters, shellfish, Parma ham and cheese, and if you crave for something sweet, chocolate and crème brûlée also goes with the beer.

Entered to celebrate my rating number 18,000. Definately the most expensive beer I’ve ever drunk - it cost me around 500 USD - because I had to buy 1.5 bottles to keep everybody happy. An opaque brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt as well as medium notes of sweet malt, and lighter notes of soy sauce, wood, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet again with strong notes of roasted malt combined with medium notes of dark chocolate and wood and lighter notes of licorice, tobacco, smoke, and alcohol, leading to dry roasted finish. The body is nice, and the alcohol bites lightly in the palate.

Bottle 375l. [ Bottle #110 ].
[ Courtesy of Ungstrup ]. Clear dark black black color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, tobaco, berry, oak - peat - smoke, cask wood, licorice, vanilla notes. Very very nice aroma. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and burnt peat bitter with a long long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft. This if deff. a very very nice beer IMO, but the price is way to high. Jens huge thanks for letting me have a glas of the very beer ;o)) [20090404]

Flaovur was sweet with plenty of hard roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, smoke, wood and peated malt, finished sweet. Full bodied and delicious. Excellent balanced. My first Jacobsen that really rocked me. Lovely.

Bottle, 8.7%. Thank you, Ungstrup. Nicely powerful aroma, raw liquorice, creamy coffee, smoky, slightly salty. Black colour. Small thick brown head. The flavour is quite roasted, but with enough sweetness to balance. There is more creamy coffee and a good, distinct, yet mild, smokiness in the finish. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Very late coffee aftertaste.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2009 Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Bottle # 110. Pours black and opaque with a light brown head. Intense aroma of burned malt and peaty smoke. Quite full-bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and a somewhat low carbonation. Hard roasted malt, peaty smoke, tobacco, salty licorice and a woody edge. The finish is dry with a rather discreet bitterness. Is this worth $345? Of course not, but that aside it’s an amazing beer. 040409

37.5 cL bottle #110, courtesy of Ungstrup! Pours pitch black with a small chocolate brown and creamy head. Fullbodied. Chocolate, roasted malt and light salami smoked aroma. Deep dark chocolate flavoured with a tar-ish wooden note to it. Again mild smoked and towards salami meady touch. Dry, dense roasted malt and a light acidic yet subdued touch from this. Lingering roasted, mild tarish smoked and wooden lasting impression alongside a dark chocolate note.
