Harviestoun Old Engine Oil Special Reserve 4.5 malrubius    3.71
Bottle in generic goblet. Dark brown/black with lasting brown head and lace. Chocolate milk port and whiskey aroma. Bitter chocolate dark fruit earth wood and whiskey with bitter chocolate whiskey finish. Medium-full body and medium carbo. Wow! Complex and delicious. Really takes on the whiskey flavors without overwhelming the excellent roasted chocolate robust porter. Now to pair it with some dark chocolate.
Cantillon 50ºN-4ºE 4.7 eaglefan538    3.91
Bottle from State Line, purchased in May, and then brought back for sharing after the shelves went dry in days, me a lucky passerby who happened to grabbed on in a short window. The pour yielded a nice hazy golden straw color, decent initial head, thinned to a ring, spotty if any lacing. The aroma was funky tart apples, grapes, and lemons, light leathery elements. The flavor was so excellent, this thing just melded together nicely, remained pleasantly drinkable (I even said it came across as a gueuze, so smooth, no idea that was the classification here). Wonderful notes of leather and the tartness worked for me, and this finished with a very mildly sweet touch in the finish. No, the sweetness wouldn’t be perceivable to the novice, but for a Cantillon brew, this had a very nice mild-balanced (for a lambic) finish, that was very pleasant. A solid and stellar brew, glad I was able to share with those that didn’t get the bottle. If only I had some more? Mouthfeel was spritzy, slightly less carbonated than other gueze brews, but moreso than a standard flat/still type lambic. Is this my favorite Cantillon? I think perhaps so.
Arrogant Bastard Ale 4.5 jstraw    3.94
Dark amber with big, foamy tan head / Soft, malty, bready nose / Full body, sweet malts, chewy, with a little dry touch on the long finish / Flavors of burnt sugar, coffee, and dry pine, with notes of grapefruit / Complex, superb.
Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale 4.4 BREWMUSKCLES    3.79
WETHER or not a strong ale i could argue that one , but beyond contention is that this is FINE beer! wonderful hop aroma cold it is refreshing slick and berry sweet with holly berriies and pine needles and cones and hops in the finest sense surrounded by a wonderful yeastiness of the palate infused with a caramel honey vanilla sweetness so genuine as to make you understand you are fortunate. proves to me that you could name a brew ’belly lint" and so what its the beer that counts! disagree with more than a couple of beers with really high ratings won’t disagree here exCept maybe this is a 99! FANTASTIC!
Etienne Dupont Organic Cidre Bouché Brut de Normandie 4.1 kramer    3.63
25 oz bottle, 2006 Vintage, via TheCheeseMan I believe. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold with a small minimal white head that ran to a thin ring. Nice crisp slightly overripe apples with lots of skins and a bit of dry funkiness. Soft delicate apple cider with a touch of sugary sweetness, again, lots of skins on the finish. This is like taking a bite out of a fresh juicy apple, but there’s that soft funkiness that really adds to the complexity. Great minimal yet fizzy carbonation with a slight tannic dryness on the finish that makes me take gulp after gulp. This was just like the others from Dupont, excellent. I could really drink these all night.
Russian River Toronado 20th Anniversary  4.2 AgentSteve    4.14
Pours a flat dark caramel. Interesting tart and funk nose with a bit of cherry like sweetness. The flavor is quite the same, with a delicate mouthfeel and complexity, with a light oak finish. Extremely smooth and no sign of alcohol.
Mad Anthony American Red 4.3 bdigi66    3.53
Draft: Poured @ MABC, reddish-amber color with a medium-sized white head and incredible amounts of lacing. Massive caramel malt notes along with an equally sinister amounts of floral and resin-y hops, some mild fruity hints noted as well. Full-bodied, especially for the style...flavors consist of caramel, light fruits and a wicked-ass hop finish that reminds me of a more balanced version of Upland’s Ard Ri. Exceptional brew.
Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout 4.4 mmm///beer    3.91
12 oz. bottle from my boy in Paw Paw, MI who found it in a small liquor store off of the old Red Arrow highway (I’ll add it when I visit again)- many thanks Marcus for completing my horizontal and for the 3am phone calls... served in a trappist glass- poured blacker than a long day of hunting with nothing to show for it in a blizzard and it’s 10 below, low carbonation, thick two finger head formed, had some lacing, that was almost solid enough to support a quarter (WOW!). Aroma of dark coffee, darkened malt, and dark thoughts. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt comes in cleanly but an almost overpowering sensation of black coffee from the seventh layer of hell comes in, smacks you around, and makes you answer to bitch right in the middle with notes of cream to tease you in the background as you lay whithering from what you just experienced as you beg for everything to be normal again. Finish refuses to go away, leaving you as you only option to slowly go insane from what you have just experienced as your conscience is unable to render what you have just partaked. Um... yeah... DH rocks!!! Always has, always will!!!
Hair of the Dog Adam 4.2 uhre    4.12
The beer is black with a huge brown head! In the aroma there is figs, roasted barley (very roasted) and alcohol. Flavor is of figs, and roasted barley sweet, with a slight burn from the alcohol.
Weyerbacher Blasphemy 4.1 padrefan98    3.6
Shared by toncatcher. Thanks Dennis. Very good BA quad. Love the style, love that the BA made the quad better.
Kuhnhenn Nine (Syrah) 4.2 padrefan98    3.98
Bottle shared by toncatcher. Thank you for saving me a swallow. Nice Abbey Dubbel with the syrah oak barrel twist. Some vanilla and wine like flavors.
Williams Brothers Black (Cask) 4.2 cgarvieuk    3.29
deep brown thick solid creamy head, ,smooth roast malts with a thick creamy body , loads of chocolate with just a hint of bitternes. light dry hoppyness in linger rounds this off nicely
Dark Horse Tres Blueberry Stout 4.2 mmm///beer    3.74
12 oz. bottle (from B&B in Grand Rapids, MI) served in shaker- poured blacker than a bad night in Hockeytown, foamy and thick one finger brown head formed, laced, and hit on my old lady while I was drinking it. Appealing aroma of darkened malt, chocolate, and blueberries by the bushel! Hits the mouth with a high-medium body, malt has been toasted hard, blueberries come in the middle and refuse to go away, finish lingers. Easily my favorite in the series thus far...
Southern Tier Pumking 4.4 BDR    3.67
An absolutely incredible beer. Spectacular out of the bottle but damn near ambrosia on tap. Well balanced pumpkin pie flavor and a crisp finish to the malty body. Sumptuous pie spice aroma with faint pumpkin in there as well. Truly divine in front of a fire.
Russian River Blind Pig IPA 4.7 Wulfstan    3.91
This is an outstanding IPA and among my favourites for the style. Its light golden amber with a small, off-white ehad that lasts and leaves some good lace. The aroma is strong grapefruit with plenty of grapes and a hint of white wine, hint of pine. it has a definite west coast IPA quality but with more body, range, malt, and juicy complexity. The taste is very juicy with grapefruit, but not too much, lemon, pine, a lot of apple and winey grape quality, bitter but with great flavour body and sweetness to carry it, and a dryish aftertaste.
Dogfish Head ApriHop 4.1 Beerman6686    3.52
Pours a nice oranage color with an off white head. Aroma is of fresh apricots and citrusy hops. Flavor is much the same, DFH really made a winner with this one, the apricots and hops meld so well together, this is so refreshing on a nice spring afternoon.
Brewsters Mata Hari 4.5 Wulfstan    2.78
This is a nice ESB-type. It’s copper with a medium, off-white head slowly shrinking to a wispy top and hint of lace. The aroma is nice grain, lemon, bread, pine, juniper, and a lot of leaves and tea. The taste is earthy, leafy, with tea, bread crust, lemon, hint of yeasty sourness, light sweetness with dominant but light bitterness, esp. in finish, a light nutty and toasty quality. It’s nice, crisp, very easy to drink and with a god depth and range of character.
Reutberger Klosterbier Josefi-Bock 4.8 Wulfstan    3.37
This is a wonderful pale bock. Copper, it has a big offi-white head slowly shrinking to a thin, wispy top. The aroma is brown bread, crust, raisins, grapes, pine bark, earthy leaves, and more bread. The taste is zesty, raisniy, butter-toffee, bread, and a bit spicey. It’s very nice, smooth, highly drinkable, with the alcohol well-hideen but adding a nice zesty warmth and body.
Lion Imperial Lager 4.3 Wulfstan    2.51
This is a tasty, nicely balanced strong lager that is very smooth and easy to drink while maintaining good flavour and body throughout. Dark gold, it has a big, off-white head that slowly shrinks and leaves a little lace. The aroma has bread, grapes, raisins, fruit , vanilla and riesling. It’s sweet and fruity (esp. grapes), with fresh sweet bread/bakery character and with a spicey, zesty quality. A pleasant, mild hop character balances the malt.

Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale 4.3 mikey    3.76
Poured from a 12oz can hazy honey/amber color with a thick, tight foam cap. The nose is huge with grapefruit and pine with toasty/bready malts. The tastes starts with a snap of grassy, piney, grapefruit hops. Then comes sweet, caramel apple malt with some sweet and slightly boozy esters in the end to accompany an almost tongue-numbing hop bite. This is one of those sleeper beers. It comes at you all unassuming in it’s average looking can, then bam! it knocks you on your ass. Bravo. A very good American Pale.

…bananas that remind me of the bananas that came in the jars of Gerber Baby Food, pencil shavings? Lemon citrus, very faint smoke phenols, white pepper, lemon and orange skin fragrances emerge as the beer warms, faint charred wood and smoke, some orange… -- BigBeer45 of Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam
