Back in the good old days in a land of unmarked pint glasses, legend has it that my grandfather was fond of asking to fit a shot of whiskey in his glass if he was poured a short pint. Woe betide the pubowner who thought he could, for my grandfather would hand it back and gruffly retort, "Then you can bloody well top up the rest of my pint with beer!"
