ante (2451), Stockholm (Bromma), Sweden Jun 16, 2008 Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Pours out in a brownish black colour with a creamy pale brown head. Anise, tar, salmiak, juniper and smoke in the rich and compact aroma. medium-bodied with strong notes of tar-pastilles, juniper, smoke and anise-seeds with weak undertones of coffee. Long smokey and tarry finish with hints of salt. An odd bird for sure but still quite quaffable. Svesse (1499), Hässelby, Sweden Jun 14, 2008 (Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 13 June 2008) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Very smokey, malty nose with burning juniper bushes, hints of liquorice and cola, but the smoke and tar dominate the aromas. Smokey taste with distinct notes of sweet liquorice (in particular those small black, round things in Bassetts All Sorts), juniper berries, smoke and tar. Sweet, but never really cloying. Medium body. Hops are overshadowed first by the smoke and then by the liquorice. Very interesting, really nice and seriously weird. As usual with Ölands, no compromises! omhper (10141), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 12, 2008 Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Very dark brown. Light tar aroma. Sweet with heavy salty licorice flavour, much like Finnish tar pastilles. Undeneath lies chewy malt with notes of chocolate. There are far less hops than what I’m used to in Ölands beers. Finishes with tar and salmiak. Nice, soft and edgeless, but really out there crazy stuff - one of the weirdest beers around! anders37 (2505), Malmö, Sweden Jun 3, 2008 Cask @ Bishops Arms, Malmö.
