Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale

This cloudy orange ale poured with a massive fluffy beige head that survived to the bottom of my Chimay glass, and a spice aroma. There is a tasty caramel malt base overlayed with pumpkin and spice flavors. This brew displays some characteristics associated with Belgian abbey ales, yet there are enough unique facets to make this an interesting beer.

This thing blew up on me, scarred the shit out of me, caused me to drop the bottle on the ground, beer poured everywhere, and i wasted a good 5 minutes of my time cleaning it up. my time is money, lots of it, these fuckers owe me like $20. Once that Rhinoceros horn of a head settled down, the beer beneath was a nice shade of dark amber brown and the head was now thin and whispy and quite lace inducing. The nose had strong notes of scotch, decomposing fruit, mildew, dirty undies, yeast, and vomit. all in a good way, mind you. The beer is pretty sweet, somewhat yeasty (cobweb, bubblegum) and slightly spicy, like orange peel maybe and a touch of coriander,. All in all, is pretty solid spicy abbey ale.

Jeeze, what a powerhouse. Haltingly aromatic, with clouds of sublime fig, prune, malt and alcohol in the nose. Flavor is rich and thick with the above plus raisin and coffee. Texture is magically Belgian - hits the tongue and evaporates like lighter fluid. Big and very sweet.

Lasting mocha head under a ruby tinged brown body. Malty spicy aroma. Sweet malt palate with perhaps some ginger-like spice. Smooth, full-bodied.

Aroma is dark fruit raison, plum and some caramel. Mouthfeel is medium carbonation is there but gets you on the finish. A little to much alcohol in the finish is what brings this down. I would like to see a little more depth in the flavor maybe a little thicker on the palate. This isn’t unusual for the style, heavy malt and sweetness but a little too boozy.
