MatSciGuy (261), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 11, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a hazy, chunky brown with a large tan head. Aroma is slight, with a little tart fruity yeast. Flavor is raisins, malt, yeast, caramel, and alcohol. Sharpness in the flavor adds a bit of dimension. Beerded_one (1617), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours brown with a fluffy tan head. Aroma is quity malty with caramel, raisins, yeast, fruit and mild spices. Flavor is very balanced with caramel malts, brown sugar, dark fruit, raisins, belgian spices and a touch of toffee.Medium to full bodied and well crafted an excellent abbey dubbel. robinvboyer (1054), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Oct 6, 2008 amazing aroma of raisins, plums, figs, and belgian yeast. flavor is just as complex, nice and sweet, loads of raisins, plums, candi sugar. The carbonation is a little high, and there booze comes through in the finish, but overall this is an excellent dubbel. Beer_2000 (1269), Kristiansand, Norway Sep 28, 2008 750 ml bottle. Brown body with a dense off-white head. Complex aroma of sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar, spices and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, light roasted malt, caramel, dry fruit, some alcohol and a hint of cellar notes. Full bodied and extremely well balanced. Actually the balance is so perfect that it’s difficult to sense the flavors after the first sips. Then just getting better and more flavorful for each sip. bb (2168), Martinez, California, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle. Caramel-brown beer with a big tan head. Caramel, yeasty aroma with fig and raisin. Fig, raisin, date flavor with yeast and rich malt. Medium-plus bodied. Rich yeasty, stone fruit, and malt lingers. Nice complexity - some darker malts present. Very good.
