Jeppe (2634), Ølbutikken, Denmark Mar 24, 2007 Foamy light tan head, hazy amber body with sediments. Caramel and dark fruit in the nose with a touch of brown sugar, a bit of yeast and a candied edge. Flavor is malty and caramelly with some yeast and fruit. Classic dubbel flavor with a nice foamy mouthfeel. A bit sharp in the finish. Easy drinkable and enjoyable.
m4rest88 (9), Beverly Hills, California, USA does not count Jul 25, 2008 This beer starts off with a dark bread aroma with a hint of molasses aroma coupled with clove and a touch of cinnamon. Its heavily yeasty and smells strongly of alchol. It has a small, fizzy head that is light brown and that is mostly diminishing. The body is hazy and murky with medium to large body particles. The body hue is brown.
The initial flavor of the beer is moderately to heavily sweet and the finish taste is very much an alcohol flavor. The finish duration is average.
The body is medium to full according to the palate and has a very syrupy texture. The carbonation if soft-lively and the finish feel is alchoholic - tastes a bit like whiskey.
The sweet beginning did not go well with me which is why i rated this beer lower than average! after4ever (1651), Brier, Washington, USA Jul 25, 2008 750, corked and baled. These guys clearly had no trouble stepping up and interpreting a distinctly belgian style in a fresh way that’s right on point for what you might expect from the style. Style conformity isn’t always a blessing, but this is so squarely on target that it’s worth mentioning. Dark brown with caramel highlights and acres of floating sediments. Rich green apple and caramel cream nose. Creamy, somewhat thick body. Caramel, cream, and light fruit on the mid-palate. Mild finish. Lovely stuff. theisti (986), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 23, 2008 750 ml bottle shared by Gregis. I believe he said he picked this up at Beertopia in Omaha (shameless plug for one of my favorite beer stores). Pour is clear brown ruby with a huge 4 inch off white head. Decent lace left behind. Aroma of chemical menthol, some maltiness behind that. Alcohol heat is evident. Dried fruit is the primary flavor initially - prunes, raisins, with some of the chemical graininess coming through. Aftertaste has residual alcohol. Overall this was just fine, just nothing really special. Thanks for sharing this one Greg. Gregis very generous. tjthresh (1257), LaPorte, Indiana and Belton, Missouri, USA Jul 23, 2008 Pours bright reddish brown with scant khaki head. Fruity banana, allspice, a bit of raisin, and some cherry. Restrained flavors. Raisin, a bit of chocolate, toffee, and alcohol. Medium body with high carbonation. A dry finish with some heat. Not a bad beer. csbosox (945), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jul 22, 2008 750ml bottle shared by Gregis. Aroma is malt, dark fruit, roasted nuts, vanilla, alcohol, wintergreen. Amber/copper colored with lots of floaties and a smallish head. Taste is fading dark fruit, mild roast, toast, caramel, alcohol. A little disappointing.
