Commercial Description:
The winner recipe from the Scandinavian home brewers competition 2006. It was brewed by Eric Olofsson on Ølfabrikken in July 2006. It is based on a mix of Maris Otter, Pilsner and wheat malt, fermented with a mix of ale yeast, pediococcos, brettanomyces and lactobacillus and conditioned on whole organic blueberries. Pictures from the brewing session at Ølfabrikken can be found at: http://www.olfabrikken.dk/images/slideshows/petitblau. Of course unfiltered, unpasteurized and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Deep unclear amber red with a thick lasting pink head. Fruity aroma with a vague brett character and some malt in the background. Lack of sourness. Malty, herby and berry flavor without much sourness. Rather dry and dusty on the tongue. I’m sorry to say that I didn’t find much lambic character in this one, look at it more like a fruit beer and it wins a bit. Not really a beer for me though - drinkable, but to me also forgetable.

Bottle. Pours a red-brown colour. Nice fruity bit sweet berry aroma with some sourness. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has a good berry and frutiness with a soft sweetness, some sourness and slight spice. Nice one.

Comments: Very interesting brew. A balanced, strongly wheaty, tart, juicy wild ale with an expanding foam and a very dry palate. Not as funky as some, but a most original beer with good fruit extraction.

Bottle sampled on 6/23/07 shared by boboski: Pours a murky ruby with a frothy well-lacing white head. Imparts a lightly sweet, funky blueberry complexity to the nose. Body starts fairly full and well carbonated with a touch of earthy berry character toward a drier, semi-tart doughy finish. An interesting blueberry beer.
