Ungstrup (10853), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 30, 2005 A black beer with a nice brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted combined with notes of caramel and hints of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, coffee, wood, and nuts, as well as hints of tar. The mouthfeel is very creamy and slightly sticky. omhper (10141), Stockholm, Sweden May 21, 2006 [Draught at Købehavnske Øldage] Dark black, creamy head. Rich coffee aroma. Dryish and smooth. Tar competes with coffee for domination. Solidly malty, but towards the finish it turnsh somewhat harsh and inky. In my opinion Ølfabrikken makes other beers that are far better. Papsoe (9771), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 11, 2005 (On tap) Pitch black with a small, creamy, light brown head. Very roasted/burned aroma. Quite full-bodied, with notes of burned malt leaving a dry bitterness. Underlying sweetness, but rounded and very smooth. Very classical Porter of superior quality. 281005 Oakes (6790), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 8, 2006 Pours viscous and nearly black, forming a thin dark brown head. The aroma is rich, chocolatey, even a bit meaty/smokey. There is buried in the background a great fresh grain aroma that reminds me of chewing on chocolate malts. Intense flavour starts with a burnt fruitcake note like you’d find in an imperial stout. This is tempered by a chocolate syrup sweetness. There is a bracing hop bitterness underlying. Finishes fairly roasty. It’s not terribly complex, nor anything even close to a porter, but pulls off a very aggressive concept quite well, which is no small feat. It actually reminds me of thicker St-Ambroise Noire, only thicker. joergen (6147), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 2, 2005 Draft at Fynske Øldage 2005.
Black coloured with a small beige head.
