Ungstrup (11136), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 16, 2007 Draft. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet fruity combined with notes of rising bread, and a slightly acidic note of roasted malt, as well as light notes of chocolate - a bit too light for my liking. The flavor is very powerful and very sweet with notes of yeast, spices (especially cloves), raisins, chocolate, and syrup, but also citrus and grapefruit notes from the hops. The end is bitter with notes of chocolate and syrup lingering, and the body is quite powerful. The thickness and notes of chocolate and syrup reminds me of ice cream topping, but all together it reminds me of a mixture of a porter and a Belgian ale. Nice. omhper (10456), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 21, 2007 Bottled at Pikkulinttu, Helsinki. Black with rich, firm off-white head. Aroma of cranberry and coffee. Sweet and full bodied with syrup, brown sugar and orange. The mouthfeel is dense and solid. The comlex flvours includes soft licorice and tobacco, as well as dark rye bread and orange peels is a never seen before combination. Complicated and powerful, this beer is really something special. Ølfabrikken never ceases to amaze me! Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 5, 2007 (Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, dark brown with a tint of red and a small, light brown head. Aroma of burned malt and some port wine. Very solid body, sweetish - almost vinous - with dried fruit and roasted malts and some burned accents. A rather complex and refined brew combining traces of both Stout and something resembling Abbey Dubbel.
