My Bottom Line:
Honeyed maltiness is lightly dusted with doughy yeast throughout in this calm and comfortably nourishing Svetlé Vycepni.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-The usual Czech tower of foam tops the hazy straw blond.
-A citrusy hop character is subtle, but pleasant as it also provides some bitterness.
-The body is soothingly healthy for a vycepni.
-This was a firm and quenching pint for the style, one which made the filtered 12-degree appear forgettable this time around.

On tap at Kralovstvi, Praha.

Draught. Slightly citric aroma. The flavour is also a bit citric, seems in less than perfect condition. Hazy golden colour. Stable creamy white head. They probably do not sell much of it.

Tap @ a corner pub in Brno.
Pours slightly hazy golden with a small, staying, creamy, off-white head. Weak citric and grainy malts aroma with a bit of hay-like hops. A bit thin and watery mouthfeel. Flavour is weak as well. Some grainy malts, citric and flowery hops. Nothing wrong with it, it’s just not very exciting.

Draught in Prague. Head like whipped cream. Soft, smoothe, then the hops creep up on you. Very nice, but not any exposion of taste here. Long lingering bitterness.

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.

How: Tap at Kralovstvi, Prague
The look: Partly cloudy golden body with a medium white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 11° and below is: Well malted body with lots of smooth cereals and a light fresh honey sweetness flavour. Some fruity notes (more fruity notes than in the 12°+) with mostly citrus fruits and a little lemon. The finish is somewhat herbal and citrusy with but unlike the 12°+ there is only a hint of the dry grassy bitterness usually associated with noble/Saaz hops. Bitterness is mild and does not really play a big role in the overall flavours spectrum. A light meringue sensation and an overall freshness impression.. Carbonation is typically very soft. These beers are low in intensity but very refreshing and drinkable in scarily large quantities.
This one: Pretty much as above but slightly better put together than average. Extra refreshing.

(Rating #1519)
