MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 22, 2005 The Lure: Citrusy, floral brightness atop biscuity, toasted malt tenderness. Whispering oils and butterscotch sweetness; these guys sure know how to brew interesting svetlés.
The Festivities: Dry and flowery hoppiness develops into blushing herbal and wooden bitterness. Biscuity malts are always near to support, and welcome they are. Classy, flavorful and quenching, yet quite different from their 12-degree.
Transcendence: Staring contently at vast expanses with a blade of straw drooping from your lips.

Pours golden with a light amber teint, a fine, creamy, white head. Fine duration. Quite crisp malty aroma, a slight touch of butter and honey and some fair grassy hops. Medium carbonation, fine mouthfeel. Flavour is malty, some slight metallic. o real butter, but a fine grassy bitter finish. KnutAlbert (2313), Oslo, Norway Jun 30, 2008 On tap in Prague.
Soft malt, honey-like sweetness, hoppy bitterness in the finish. A bit too sweet, perhaps, but well worth trying out. Glouglouburp (1999), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 7, 2008 Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. ----------------------------------------------------------------
How: Bottle at Kralovstvi, Prague
The look: Clear blonde body with a short-lived white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 11° and below is: Well malted body with lots of smooth cereals and a light fresh honey sweetness flavour. Some fruity notes (more fruity notes than in the 12°+) with mostly citrus fruits and a little lemon. The finish is somewhat herbal and citrusy with but unlike the 12°+ there is only a hint of the dry grassy bitterness usually associated with noble/Saaz hops. Bitterness is mild and does not really play a big role in the overall flavours spectrum. A light meringue sensation and an overall freshness impression.. Carbonation is typically very soft. These beers are low in intensity but very refreshing and drinkable in scarily large quantities.
This one: As above but more of an honeyed hay flavour and not enough herbal hops. Below average. (Rating #1545) faroeviking (4396), Faroese Autonomous Beer Republic, Denmark Feb 2, 2008 Bottle bought in Riga. Golden colour with fair white head. Sweet bitterish malty aroma. The flavour has a soft bitterness with toastish malt, some sweetness and grass.
