A strong ale brewed with sugar-loaf, rum and beer schnaps. Hazy reddish brown. Sweet with clean, rounded malt profile. Fruity with some molasses. Fairly complex and confusing with low hop rate. The spices does not shine through that much.
Pub (4103), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Dec 25, 2004 On tap at 1516 Brau, Vienna. Red, brown chestnut ale with bubbly head. Rich fruity sweet beer with sharp portish alcoholic notes. Spicy berry notes throughout, rather heavy going. Geiserich (1540), Vienna, Austria Dec 23, 2004 Sampled draught at the brewpub
This strong ale was made in the style of the famous "Feuerzangenbowle". A drink were a sugar loaf is put over a pot of wine, soaked with rum and kindled. So the sugar drops slowly in the wine. After this recipe the Brewer Bruno Aristeguieta from Venezuela invented the beer in 2003 in Vienna and this year it was brewed again. The beer is brewed wit 2 sorts of hop and 4 sorts of malt, and in addition to the sugar-loafs rum and beerschnaps.
Aroma has malty fruitiness and biscuits notes. The beer is ruby red, lots of particles, no head and was served in a wine glas. Rich in content, fruity (berries) malty, alcoholic. Well balanced by it’s light bitter, dry finish. A real pleasant winter warmer.
