MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Sep 22, 2008 Poured from a 500ml bottle and served in a tumbler. This beer poured a hazy golden with a thick, fizzy head of off-white foam and a ton of dancing carbonation bubbles. Solid retention, leaving behind some decent lace. The aroma of the beer was a simple blend of wheat, tart lemon, and grass. The flavor was similar but also displayed a nice crispness and a moderate sourness. Some lime and peach also show up in the finish. The mouthfeel was crisp and light-bodied. Highly carbonated. Fruity and refreshing. An excellent beer for a hot day. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Sep 20, 2008 hazy straw body, short white head, beads of streaming tiny bubbles; lively; sour-tart apples, wheat; good, refreshing. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Sep 18, 2008 Pours a hazy golden in color with a small off white head. Aroma of lacto sourness, grain, tart fruits. Taste is nice and tart with a moderate amount of lactic sourness- tart citrus, wheat, sour apple. Carbonation is lively, and the body is a bit more than I am used to in Berliner Weiss’s, but this is good stuff. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Sep 15, 2008 16.9 oz. bottle. Pours a pale yellow-gold with a moderate-large white head that lasted through the first third of the glass and left a few spots of lace. Very pleasant aroma of lemos with a few notes of wheat. The lemon aroma is both mildly tart and sweet. The flavor is equally lovely with lemon that is again both tart and sweet along with some wheat and yeast. Nicely carbonated and lively on the palate. This is a thoroughly enjoyable beer.
As an aside, I would like to try using this beer to make a sorbet. I’ve made champagne sorbet, which is excellent as an intermezzo. I think this beer would be excellent for that. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 11, 2008 Bottle: Poured at J.K. O’Donnell’s...very pleasant surprise seeing this on the menu. Cloudy yellow pour with a fluffy white head. Light malted wheat, subtle candy sugar, biscuit and spice in the nose with the lactic notes rounding it out. Wow...first taste on this was incredible, very crisp and champagne-like with huge amounts of sour-y goodness. Wheat and lemongrass flavors also noted. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA Sep 1, 2008 Finally! A chance to try this ultra-rare beer style without catching a plane to Berlin (although I desperately want to do that too.) From what I have read, this is an excellent example of the style, which I definitely drank without any artificial syrup. Poured into a short, stemless, rocks-style glass, there is little head, and a very pale yet hazy gold and distinctive blonde, pineapple juice-like color. The aroma is very cedary, slightly oaky, and full of lactic acid and a vinous sour apricot tinge that stings the nostrils with a very yeasty and complex odor of pineapple and earthy, bacterial farmhouse funk that is remniscent of unblended lambic. The first sip produces a mouthfeel that is very light, delicate, and estery. The taste is very crisp and carbonated with apricot, grapefruit, and a bit of sour apple. Ultra soft, lively, and refreshing beyond words. This is THE ULTIMATE summer refresher. Further sips bring cider apples, yogurt, and a pleasant sourness, that is by no means overwhelming. (I simply couldn’t bring myself to ruin this beer mit schuss-(with syrup.) There is a very short, quick, cidery finish, leaving the mouth refreshed and rejuvenated long after the beer is finished. Amazing stuff!
k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2008 Pours cloudy dirty yellow with a one inch effervescent white head. Aroma is tangy sour notes of grape skins and apple with bit of citrusy lemon zest. Flavor is initially sharply bitter/sour/citrusy and then mellows to the lightly sour wheat flavor with a nice tangy dry finish. Ample carbonation and lively body. Exceedingly drinkable though a tad stronger w/ more body than some other examples. allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottled. Poured cloudy pale yellow, with a foamy white head. Armoa was yeasty, sour, wet blanket. Flavor was crisp, clean, citrusy. A tart, lemon cookie kind of taste. Dry, almost astringent finish.
