chronictonic (399), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2008 bottle - May 2008 Straw, cloudy (chunky) pour. Moderate, rocky white head. Some graininess and banana in the nose. Flavor is yeasty and bready, some mild banana esters, and medium tartness. Would like to see lower abv and og and more of that bret tartness. idbowman82 (62), Painesville, Ohio, USA May 24, 2008 I thought this was a very satisfying weisse.
Nose is very bready with hints of banana citrus, and raspberry. Taste follows suit but adds a distinct tartness. It finishes dryer than many wheats, but it was certainly a good offering. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA May 23, 2008 Pours a hazy golden color with a massive white head that shrinks with time. Nose is sour and wheat like with some bread. Taste is wheat lemon citrus and finishes really tart and sour. A very interesting style but the acidity and sourness makes it a bit hard to quaff. Not bad. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA May 20, 2008 Pours hazy light gold with a frothy head. Aroma of breat, yeast, and banana. Initial taste is sour with strong notes of bread and banana. Medium light mouthfeel. My first Berliner Weisse. Won’t be the last. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia May 19, 2008 [Bottle] Pours hazy golden with a good white head. Aroma is yeast, wheat and light banana. Taste is quite sour, but doesn’t seem to mesh very well with the wheat and banana flavors. Medium-thin mouthfeel with a somewhat short finish. This is the first Berliner Weisse that I have tried, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I have to say that I was fairly underwhelmed by it. dalepryor (172), Paducah, Kentucky, USA May 18, 2008 purchased from the beverage castle in tampa. aroma is very very sour and lemony so to say, it’s almost like sniffing a lemon. the pour is amazing, i didnt know what to expect but it looks similar to lemonade while pouring and then somewhat like apple cider. the flavor is identical to the smell, extremely tart and sour. it has almost a sour grape flavor with lemon juice. i love this style, it’s just what i was looking for when i bought it. great stuff!! Illini08 (528), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA May 18, 2008 Bottle from Friar Tuck in Champaign and shared with barleyPops. Pours a hazy straw color with a white 1-finger head. Nice aroma somewhat characteristic of a wheat-beer: yeasty and somewhat spicy. It also had just a light hint of funkiness to it. I hadn’t read any descriptions and didn’t know what to expect with the style, so I was surprised to have a sour taste meet my tongue. The light sourness mixed well with the esters and spices of the wheat beer and made for an interesting drink. I’m definitely not into sours, but I did enjoy this one. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA May 18, 2008 Poured a hazy shade of gold with a bright foamy white head...Very lively carbonation remiscent of champaigne! Aroma was bananna and lemons. Flavor was inital sweet fruit, followed by tart sour finish. Very much lemon tartness. My first reaction was YUCK. But I stayed with it and it grew on me. I imagine this would be a good beer to start with if you want to work up to the sours. Very different.
