Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 8, 2008 Updated: Sep 10, 2008In short: On of the most refreshing and tart beer this side of the lambics. The ultimate lemonade for the beer lover.
How: Bottle, fresh, drank the day of purchase
The look: cloudy yellow with a little with ring of foam
In long: Aroma of lemon pie with meringue. Fluffy body offering lots of hay, lemon skin, lemonade concentrate, granny smith apples and bananas. This is a very tasty beer and it is very very tart. The tartness/acidity is such that it makes this little 5% Berliner Weisse almost a sipper. The type of beer that I was thinking of a high-3 rating while drinking it because after all this is “just a little refreshing beer” but woke up the day after obsessing about it. On a hot summer day this beer will be as welcomed as air conditioning and satellite tv by Abu Ghraib prisoners.
DeweyDell (155), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 6, 2008 500 mL bottle. Pours pale yellow color with a foamy white head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is wheaty with some tart apple cider and citrus peel aroma. Flavor is very smooth, just a little bit of tartness at the end. This is my absolute favorite easy-drinking beer... I only wish it came in six-packs. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 5, 2008 Bottle courtesy of theisti. Very beautiful golden pour with a big foamy head. Wheaty nose with lemon, apples and a tart aromatic quality. Taste is a lemony treat with a nice pilsner flavor. Very refreshing and enjoyable. Thanks Tim. lethe (168), Stony Brook by way of Cincinnati, New York, USA Jan 4, 2008 Cloudy golden pour has a massive, foamy head. Nose is lively and sour with an undertone of banana and wheat. Palate is really amazing with a sturdy body softened by strong carbonation in a great interplay. Flavor is mostly dominated by the tartness with more of wheat qualities shining through. These revolving elements make for a refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable example of this interesting style. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Jan 3, 2008 1 Pint 0.9 oz. Bottle, pours clear pale gold and/or yellow gold with a white head that leaves some lacing, aroma of pilsner malt, pear and apple fruitiness, faint banana wheat aroma, fragrance of old flowers and an aged scent (maybe woody?), yes, this has a sharp sour tartness of grapefruit upon first sip, malt flavor with pears and apples, hints of berry, I noticed a faint strawberry flavor, I did not detect any hops in this drink, bubbly and very dry on the palate, reminded me of how a Belgian Wit feels on the tongue only with more tart and dryness, has a Champagne liveliness in the mouth, I see why this is refered to as a refreshing drink, clean and tart on the palate, could almost pass as a dry white wine, gave me hints of the same, this is a dry wisp of a drink, not as heavy as a white wine, as this beer warms the strength of the tartness tapers off some but is always there. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Jan 1, 2008 Bottle: Yellow tinted straw, very cloudy, sediment settling to the bottom, moderate fizzy white head, dies quickly, sparce lacing.
Bright/tart wheat malt aroma.   Minor sourness.   Tart on the tongue, wheaty but also quite fizzy, with a clean crisp finish.
Fairly dry as well.   Moderate body, bubbley mouthfeel.   This one doesn’t need any syrup.   Somewhat reminds me of a
lighter Gueuze with more of a wheat malt body.   Enjoyable.
TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2007 16.9 oz bottle. Clear golden yellow with active carb and a puffy white head. Nose is lemon, mild sour milk and wheat. Tangy with muted carb and a clean wheaty body. Taste is lemon-lime and green banana. Refreshing with restrained tartness. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 27, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This complex Berliner Weisse quenches with its osmosis of citrusy tartness, milky bananas and wheaty haystacks. This is a smashing example of a too obscure style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the cloudy whitish blond.
-The body is quite nourishing for such a drinkable product.
-Effervescence is lively but comfortable.
-Citrusy tartness is not that of a mouthpuckering lambic, but is present enough to make this even more drinkable.
-Spicy phenols are found in the nose.
Bottle; no date.
