Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

Can’t gibve it a good aroma, but other than that I really enjoyed this beer! Definetely tart and acidic. Too much for my taste, but the overall beer was fruity and tasty. It grows on you the longer you drink it!

Pours bright gold into a bowl snifter. White head quickly subsides to hug rim. Slight malt to no aroma. Crisp with upfront sour wheat and a tart sour apple lactic finish.

Bottled, 500ml, Bottle conditioned, courtesy of Der Doppelbock (Sebastian). Cloudy gold with short lasting head. High in lactic acid flavours, it is sharp, lemony and tangy with a lingering sourness. Soft fruit and acidic apples also noted in the flavour a challenging and interesting beer. Good stuff.

Pale yellow with a cloudy head. Aroma is wheaty with bubble gum and banana only with some sourness in there as well. Flavor is tart and creamy. This is a good representative of the style.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden/straw color with a med-sized bubbly white head. Aroma is yeast, straw, sourness and some other funkiness. Somewhat dry and light, but very refreshing. Could probably drink this all day. Some fruity flavors, with some yeast and a little spice. Very glad I got to try this.

Pours out a hazy pale yellow with a thick white head that dissapears almost instantly after foaming up. Smells slightly tart and sweet. Funny, this reminded me very much of the smell of apple juice. Yeast is also present. Tastes is tart and very acidic. Wheat is present but an apple flavor is still comming through. Very crisp and refreshing beer, one of the most refreshing I have ever had. I liked this one a lot, and excellent blend of fruity flavor and tart dryness.
