Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

bottle @ Rudolf’s Sour Tasting with Rudolf, IPFreely, Jerc & Frylock. Really liked this one. Sweet, somewhat tart, fruity. a nice mid break from some of the extreme tartiness from th geuze & krieks. #499

The 16.9 ounce bottle poured a cloudy light golden yellow colored beverage with a modest sized white fizzy head that was completely gone in 2 minutes and left no lacing on the glass. The aroma was slightly sweet with notes of lemon and grasses. The body was medium-light with lively carbonation and a watery texture. The flavor starts out sour and stays that way throughout the medium length finish.

Bottle, 50 cl. yesterday @ ratebeer meeting, Kulminator. Very cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma full off yeast, hops, fruits. Medium body. Taste is good citrus, yeast, hops and a fruity touch. Not so bad.

Pours beautifully with an ultra-smooth head of foam, like watching a waterfall of cascading white sand. Wheaty and quite sour, but not in a funky sort of way, more sour mash and wheat sour. A nice change-up from the usual suspects. Would try again.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a thick white creamy head. Man this thing has monster carbonation. Looks like a storm inside the glass. The aroma is sour, wheaty, tart apples, yeasty. Mmmm mmmm. Tastes very tart, like sour apples, has a sour acidic and wheaty, shares definite similarities to other wheat beers but allows itself to stand out in a great way.

Available at the Cellar’s Lex/Larp. pours a super cloudy straw like deep yellow, with a massive creamy white head. Nice biscuity sweet malt as well as some citrus rind and banana. Super tart lemony sweetness with a great creamy body that almost finishes with a wine like acidity.
