Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

Bottle. Head quickly collapses on top of a cloudy orange body. Aroma is more malty than tart. You can clearly taste the banana like yeast of Weihenstephan. Theres some sour (sour may be a reach) orange flavor but this doesn’t resemble any berliner weiss I’ve ever had. Just too sewwt for me.

hazy light yellow, dense white head, light tart aroma, flavor is tart overall but has enough sweetness in the background to almost keep it balanced,

Very interesting fruitiness. There’s something there reminiscent of a lambic, but mostly, it’s just the hefe fruit. There’s a green apple and lime tartness in the finish of this one. Not full on sourness, though. Almost a hint of mint in the aroma. Right now, it’s nicely balanced with a good wheat backbone. Very cloudy pour.

Bottle. Cloudy pale yellow pour, with a quickly diminishing head. Aroma is very spicy, with some banana and coriander in there. Sour taste, nothing crazy, but it’s sour. Citrus, coconut, coriander, zest. Warm, carbonated, and drinkable. It’s good.

Pours out a very light yellow color with a white head on it. Smell is fruity and sour with some lemons in it. Taste is fairly sour, but very refreshing. Probably the most refreshing beer I have ever drank. There isnt alot to say about the beer, but I just know its damn good.

Perfect hazy golden color with a large white head. Wheaty-citrusy aroma with a hint of bread dough. First sip is an explosion of pleasantly sour lemon that’s quite refreshing. Very smooth on the palate with great carbonation.

A very drinkable berliner weisse. Still tart and tangy, but not overwhelmingly so. Serious lemon and lime notes, with a delightful effervescence. Top-notch stuff.

Bottle. Pours a hazy bright yellow with a bright white head. Aroma of lemon zest and bananas in milk with sugar on top. A pleasant lemony tartness with better than average carbonation on the palate. A hint of granny smith apple and wheat. Finishes fairly tart. What a great summer refresher.
