Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Mar 14, 2009 Updated: Mar 18, 2009Pours a light straw color with thin white head. Aroma is of tart fruit and some tangy wheat and some yeast esters. Flavor is much the same but this is a refreshing and subtle Berliner Weiss which is more enjoyable compared to others I’ve sampled. Solid. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Mar 9, 2009 Bottle, no syrup.
Tart, sour lemony aroma some spicy rich notes. Pours with a big foamy off white head on a just slightly hazy straw yellow colored body. Quite tart flavor that puckers the mouth with a citric character. Very thin perfect mix of refreshing tartness and carbonation bite. MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 7, 2009 Bottle thanks to lithy! Transparent, zesty gold, puffy white head, but by the end of the bottle, it’s murky yellow and tepid. Nose is rather un-aggressive but still pretty cohesive with lemon, wheat, and cream. Also a little funky. Tart lemon and yogurt rule the flavor, some minor grain and wheat near the aftertaste. Palate is nice and full, very zesty, but the finish is pretty short. Nice example here, and refreshing palate and carbonation are clutch, but it’s not the best example. gutzon (4), Minnesota, USA does not count Mar 5, 2009 In bottle. Frothy white head, golden (almost amber), clear until the very end of the pour. Simple lemony, yeasty flavor and aroma, with little aftertaste. Quite refreshing. Second bottle of ten bought Feb 2009. Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 4, 2009 Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with light acidic notes combined with notes of malt, which also pretty much sums up the flavor. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Mar 3, 2009 Been looking for this Berliner Weisse for ages. Picked up this bottle at John’s Grocery in Iowa City, IA, and opened with Tom at the "What this town needs is an IHOP" tasting. Pale gold, bunches of clean noisy white bubbles. Soft lemon cake and corn bread aroma. Gentle lemon snap to the flavor. Simple, refreshing. But more DMS, and much less funk and complexity than I was hoping for. Will have to try an older bottle. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Mar 1, 2009 The Rotten Apple tasting. A slightly cloudy golden beer with a white head. Sour aroma with some fruit. Flavor is tart and wheaty. Apples. Smooth feel. Not a favored style of mine but a good example of the style. JamesD (192), Centreville, Virginia, USA Feb 27, 2009 Pretty good. Has a nice, slightly tart aroma with notes of citrus. The flavor is tart, wheaty, and crisp. Very refreshing.
