Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

Bottle shared by Blake, brought back from the blasted wastelands of his homeland, "Iowa". Cloudy yellow body under a fluffy white head. Tart acidic aroma - lemon and sugar cookie. The flavor has similar acidic notes over husky pale malt. A solid beer, tart and refreshing.

Bottle: Yellow pour with a large white head. Aroma is dry with grassey hops, light citrus, and a hint of grain. Flavor becomes crisp with citrus, a little biscuit, and some light hops. Nice. Thanks Jordan.

Pours out a very light yellow color with a white head on it. Smell is fruity and sour with some lemons in it. Taste is fairly sour, but very refreshing. Probably the most refreshing beer I have ever drank. There isnt alot to say about the beer, but I just know its damn good.

Pale yellow with a hazy look. Nice mid-sized frothy head. Aroma is sour and lemony citrus with a barny noe. Flavour was also sour with a weaty and yeasty flavour. Tart and dry.

Bottle. Pours unclear yellow gold with a fluffy white head. The aroma has a nice fruity sweetness/tartness. Crisp and cool in the mouth, with a nice restrained acidity and a pleasing citric zest. Incredibly drinkable and refreshing, with a nice dry and tart finish.
