Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

Pours cloudy yellow with large white head and carbonation that never seems to stop. There were so many bubbles continuing in mine, it also seemed like I was drinking a beer soda. Aroma of wheat, citrus, and some spices. Lemon in the flavor. I wasn’t that big of a fan.

yellow pour big white head. Aroma of wheat and lemon. Flavor is very citrusy lots of lemon, a crisp tartness hits with lots of belgian yeast notes, and an almost sprite like finish. Some light banana notes as well, but mainly lemon, and yeast. A great thirst quencher.

Bottle. Pours a hazy pale golden with a short lived one finger white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of wheat, lemon, yeast , light banana, and a hint of vanilla. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium creamy mouthfeel that finishes dry and tart. Very good.

Pours a sightly hazy straw color with a huge head. Not much retention. Aroma of wheat, dust, bananas and sweet malt. Sour and tangy lemon and dust taste, with some wheat and pear. Light body and complex! Very good all around.

Bottle from Red, White and Brew in Mt. Holly, NJ. Pours a cloudy yellow body with large, white, foamy head. Aroma is banana and spice. Taste is sharp and refreshing with a small note of tart. Flavor also has some wheat and malt, nice carbonated mouth feel adds to an inviting palate.
