Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

Bottle from Red, White and Brew in Mt. Holly, NJ. Pours a cloudy yellow body with large, white, foamy head. Aroma is banana and spice. Taste is sharp and refreshing with a small note of tart. Flavor also has some wheat and malt, nice carbonated mouth feel adds to an inviting palate.

This beer pours a cloudy orange, it almost looks like a grapefruit juice considering it has that nice citric and bitter aroma to it. The head foams up really nice and as fast as it foams up it fades to nothing. The initial taste is very salty and tangy but that fades as quick as the beer goes down your throat. the after taste on the palate is very smooth and toffee like with mild hints of melon.

Poured a hazy yellow colour with a very active fizzy white head. Head instantly diminished to a ring. Aroma presents funky yeast, light fruit, citrus and spices. Initial taste is tangy, a salty wheat makes up the background character of this brew. Moving into a lightly spiced citrus. Palate duration cuts short and is slightly dry. A light body, but refreshing and enjoyable.

bottle from ucusty...pours hazy golden yellow with a fluffy short lived head. aromas of lemon, wheat and wet canvas. flavor is the same with some yeast present. there’s a lactic phlegmy coating in the back of the throat when swallowed. light bodied and refreshing. it’s very dry but the sourness isn’t overdone.

Tastes like a lemon spritzer! Refreshing, tart, sour and acidic, with a lemon-citrus fruit sharpness. Spritzy, champagne-like carbonation. $5.99 for a 16.9-oz bottle from 99 Bottles in Federal Way, Wash.

Bottle @ redlight redlight. Poured into a huge footed weisse glass, hazy gold with a huge fluffy white head. On the nose, my first thought was orange juice though then I questioned this. Nicely sour/tart and fruity, not full on lemon, but hints of citrus, hard to pin down. In the mouth it tastes of lovely slight sourness and tartness, more distinct impression of some lemon. A slight puckering invoked, full mouthfeel and a nice dry finish. This was wonderfully thirst quenching. I will be keeping a couple of these on hand for those hot Florida summer days that I know will soon be here.

Bottle thanks to Ty5592. Poured a slightly hazy golden color with a moderate white head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of tart citrus and wheat. Dominant sour flavor with hints of citrus fruit and light wheat flavors on the finish. Pretty simple flavor profile, but it is refreshing. Easy to drink and crisp on the palate. Very nice beer that makes me proud of my German heritage. Thanks Ty, you are the man.

Bottle. Aroma fruity (citrus, bold pear), mildly tart, wheaty. More tartness introduced in the flavor, mingles well with the sweet, increasingly complex fruits. Pretty dry, but not bone dry. Very nice.
