Commercial Description:
Created by Dr. Fritz Briem of Doemens Institute, brewed by Weihenstephan & Doemens, “1809” is a very traditional interpretation of the “Berliner Style” Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways. “1809” is fermented in traditional open fermenters and horizontal lager tanks. The applied mashing regime is a single step decoction mash with 50 % wheat malt. The total amount of hops is added to the mash so that isomerisation takes place in the decocotion part of the mash. The wort is not boiled but only heated up to boiling temperature and then transferred to the open fermenters and pitched with yeast and lactic acid bacteria (isolated from malt) at 18 °C (64°F).

Bottle… RBSG 07… Murky, straw-colored ale with no real head. The nose is of lemon oil, orange peel and green banana with undercurrents of white pepper and white bread. Tart flavor with nowhere near the acidity of the Fitgers Champagne of the North, which I tried earlier in the evening. There is plenty of rich pale and wheat malt and fruity esters to dumb down the pungency, while never overriding or disgracing the beer’s acidic nature. Medium to full-bodied with a lightly creamy, then astringent mouthfeel and lively carbonation. As if threatened and attempting to defend it’s honor, the acidity fights back to provide a lengthy, crisp, sharp-tasting finish. Kudos to SoLan for bringing this fine brew from way down in Florida!

1pt 9fl oz: Clear yellow pour with two finger, frothy white head. Very soft nose offers some lacto sourness with a touch of wheat. Very unassuming. Crisp, tart body leads with light peach and pear esthers, followed by a quiet dose of wheaty malt. Leaves a tart lemon lime feeling on the back of the tongue. This is a tough one to analyze. It is crisp and refreshing, flaw-free. Very drinkable, but just not that much there. But I guess that is the point.

Bottle. [thank you, after4ever]
Pours clear, pale golden with a nice, frothy, fizzy, white head. Aroma is lightly tart, lemons, apple and some funk. A bit weak mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Flavour is okay, light sour and citric with some sweet wheat. Well, it is never a 3,67 beer, but drinkable.

Pours pale golden with no head. The nonse is full and complex. The flavor is sweet on the tip of the tongue, with subtle mid to finish.

Clear yellow with a fizzy white head and fervent visible carbonation. Dry acidic fruity character aroma. Lingering acidic taste some tart citrus notes. Smooth body and a strong lifting carbonation to a dry finish.

Bottle, Aroma of grass sweet and sour. Yellow body with white head. Flavor is crisp and has a sour tart bite to start with. Sourness subsides for a tart dryness on the finish. Dry palate and good old fashioned beer belch to boot. Decent brew.
