SamGamgee (592), Santa Cruz, California, USA Sep 7, 2008 On tap at 21A, 4.2% abv for this batch. What can I say, it’s a nitro stout and looks the part. Super dark red (black) with the whole cascading bubble number down pretty well, and a dense, fake tan head. Light aroma of cocoa powder and some roast. The flavor is roasty and pretty dry, with a nice bitter chocolate flavor and some coffee lingering in the finish. More malt then you would get in an Irish import, and a touch more sweetness. My dad said he wanted it dryer, but then it would taste like the black water that Guinness passes of on us these days. I enjoyed the flavor, but the nitro thoroughly killed the mouth-feel for me; it was just flat and lifeless, with a fake creamy feel. I know that this would be more enjoyable out of a regular tap, but I also know how well nitro works as a marketing tool for dry stouts these days. Juancho (204), New York, New York, USA Sep 4, 2008 A nice deep dark dry stout. Just a great session beer, not much to set it aside, but i’s a well done stout. Ale_Drinker (1073), Sunnyvale, California, USA Oct 16, 2007 Pours dark with a tan foam head. Aroma is of roasted/burnt malt. Flavor is smooth and creamy but a bit bland. Not bad. bb (2168), Martinez, California, USA Nov 30, 2006 Draft. Brown/black beer with a creamy beige nitro head. Light roast/coffee aroma. Light roast/toffee/coffee/caramel malt flavor that lingers. Just a bit of bitterness. Medium bodied. The flavor is just a bit too light for me. Davecooks (1150), Bay Area, California, USA Nov 4, 2006 Draft on Nitro. Dark brown color with a frothy beige head. Chocolate malt aroma. Flavors of chocolate, burnt malt and some sweet fruits. Dry finish.
