An almost Guinness color head, that white/tan look with some mild, sticky lacing at the beginning. Lots of floral aromas - roses, grapes, light mint along with the usual hoppy distinctives. Hoppy flavor abounds. When its too cold it has a tinny aftertaste, but as it warms up it isa great IPA with a warm toasty aroma and a great bitter finish. Tasty.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Tap at Rattle n Hum: Ruby pour with a deep brown hue and a nice lacing tan head. Clean rich chocolaty background in the aroma with a ton of resiny Northwest hops (Chinook?). Creamy body. Substantial and balanced. Mildly chocolaty with smooth firm malts and a balancing resiny/piny chewy hop presence. A nice BIPA. nimbleprop (951), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Picked up a growler at Big Z beverage. Pours a translucent black with a soft, lacing white head. If you didn’t know what this was, the appearance says porter. The aroma on the other hand, says IPA loud and clear: tropical fruits, pine, citrus zest. Flavor is sweet and bitter, doughy, bready, grapefruit, lemons, oranges, a little resiny. Finish is sweet and bitter. Nice combination. jcr (1190), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Draft. Rattle n Hum, NYC. Deep brown to black body. Creamy tan head, slowly diminishing. Nice, full aroma of of roasty malts and hops. Notes of citrus, pine, flowers, toffee, toasted grain and cocoa. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, smooth texture, lively carbonation. Reminds me of Dogfish Head Indian Brown, only hoppier. Nice interplay of dark malts and hops. And interesting. Well done. Pwn3d (1127), Manhattan, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2009 32 oz growler from Big Z’s in Huntington. Dark brown, porter-like appearance. A small lasting off white/tan head. Aroma of alot of citrus - some tropical fruit and pine, with light touches of dark crystal malt, maybe a touch of chocolate. Taste is hoppy but has some caramel, and very light touches of a roasted grain coming through. Hops mostly have grapefruit, light tropical fruit, and moderately piney. Bitterness is moderate for the style. Body is medium, the texture is good. Slipstream (785), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2009 A black IPA - interesting, don’t think I have had one of these before. Could this be a cross between an IPA and a schwarzbier? To me, it tasted like a hoppy schwarzbier. Dry, roasty, and astringent, with a little yeast and herbal notes. Out of the ordinary, and pretty good. On tap at RnH. fakepurseninja (794), Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Deep black body with lasting brown head. Moderately roasted malt body. Lightly bitter chocolate with root and various earthy notes. Thin hop presence, light citrus and pine with an oily finish that was accentuated by the thin body. Crisp and refreshing. glennmastrange (868), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Tap. The malt side is of moderate toasted, heavy spruce for the hops, light leather for the yeast, with background notes of charcoal and pepper. Head is large, frothy, slightly off-white with fair lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. The aroma is fantastic in this but the flavor lags behind a bit. Still a great IPA.
