Dark brown color, tan head, emits some light through it when held up to a bulb. The flavor is a nice mix of citrus, grapefruit, caramel, resin, and after it warms, a roasty, chocolate quality - decent balance. The finish is purely a resiny hop bittering. The mouthfeel is medium, relatively high carbonation burn. Decent overall. Only a lsight difference between this and a regular IPA, meaning the slight chocolate/roasted quality, and thistakes a while to evince itself.

A small lasting off white/tan head. Aroma of alot of citrus - some tropical fruit and pine, with light touches of dark crystal malt, maybe a touch of chocolate. Taste is hoppy but has some caramel, and very light touches of a roasted grain coming through. Hops mostly have grapefruit, light tropical fruit, and moderately piney. Bitterness is moderate for the style. Body is medium, the texture is good. Slipstream (760), USA

Could this be a cross between an IPA and a schwarzbier? To me, it tasted like a hoppy schwarzbier. Dry, roasty, and astringent, with a little yeast and herbal notes. Out of the ordinary, and pretty good. On tap at RnH. fakepurseninja (785), Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Deep black body with lasting brown head. Moderately roasted malt body. Lightly bitter chocolate with root and various earthy notes. Thin hop presence, light citrus and pine with an oily finish that was accentuated by the thin body. Crisp and refreshing. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Tap. The malt side is of moderate toasted, heavy spruce for the hops, light leather for the yeast, with background notes of charcoal and pepper. Head is large, frothy, slightly off-white with fair lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. The aroma is fantastic in this but the flavor lags behind a bit. Still a great IPA. daknole (2960), Plantation, Florida, USA

Pours a super dark brown with a short lived tan head. Aroma is citrusy and some melon notes to go along with a light roasted nut smell and caramel. Flavor is nice and hoppy, moslty mandarin orange mixed with some hop bitterness. fredandboboflo (1418), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Growler. Aroma of citrus hops, bitter chocolate, light roast, light nuts. Flavor about the same, equal parts hops and malt. Not bad, just a bit boring for me, particularly for a new sort of style. LilBeerDoctor (1505), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Growler from Big Z Beverage. Pours a dark dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of citrus, roasted malt.. Flavor is sweet initiaaly with orangey, citrus notes and a crackery malt finish. Very enjoyable! Not as roasty as some of the other black IPAs with a prominent hop presence. Well done!
