Pours a clear deep golden orange with a big fluffy off white head. Great nose of citrus fruit, pine and a bit grassy. Flavor was a great combo of citrus and sweet malt, perfectly balanced. Seems more traditional IPA than west coast, but that’s not me complaining, just noting what I believe to be the god’s honest truth. Tasty, malty, rich, hoppy. Sweet looking can. Probably wouldn’t fool a cop on the beach though. marcus (1885), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2008 This clear golden ale poured with a nice white head and a pine aroma. There is a rich malt base and lots of hop flavor that is floral as well as bitter (but not too bitter). Nice balance. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours a mostly clear amber color with lasting offwhite head in a tulip. Smell is very hoppy and a bit piney, earthy and fruity, with a hint of butteriness as it warms. Nice at first, but then the smell fades quickly and gets a bit too buttery for me. Taste is moderately bittered and with sweet malt. Some tea like flavors and very light grapefruit too. Medium bodied and soft to medium carbonation. Very drinkable but the buttery flavor bugs me a bit. Taverner (863), San Ramon, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 7, 2008 A good, solid, West Coast IPA. The malt is a little too earthy, but other than that its plain solid. Pours copper with white head. Strong dry malt presence, balanced by a strong citrus and floral hop profile. I assume I will up my rating when I have this one fresh. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2008 Can courtesy tpd975. Pours a clear golden with a large white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of citrus and floral hops with a good dose of sweet malt to back it up. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness. Very good. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 5, 2008 Pours a light clear amber color, with a small off white head. Smells like it has a powerful citrus presence right away, with the hops and malt only there for backup so far. The flavor seems to translate all their flavor characters into one nice little IPA. The hops are there, but balanced out nicely by the fruit and malt. Crisp hop bitterness tingles the palate in the finish and lingering aftertaste. Nice little IPA in a can. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2008 Updated: Sep 7, 200812oz can. Light orange-amber with a sticky white head. Great hop aroma: sweet fruity and herbal. Filled with grapefruit, mint... quite citrus dominated, with a soft impact. Actually smells just like the cascade pellets I brewed with a couple weeks ago. If it weren’t for the tangerine and carrot cake sweetness, I would never tell the difference. The flavor fills the mouth with candied citrus; lots of hop flavor, relatively low bitterness. Sweet, but not really malty or caramely, more of a light toasted malt sweetness that fills out the citrus and nectar flavors. Some melon and apricot too. Light on the tongue, but substantial as well, with a soft feel. This is an interesting IPA, similar to Nectar’s IPA in its fruitiness and vivid hop flavors, while being restrained in its bitterness. I also love the can. When it comes down to it though, the malts could be a little beefier, and a little more bitterness would clean the fruity citric sweetness up a little more. (3.6)
Rerate: On tap at the brewpub. Definitely a superior version of this being served at the brewery. Pretty much all my complaints about the canned version were fixed in the pint served at 21A. Dryer and with a more assertive grapefruit peel bitterness. The selection at 21A sucked overall, but this one beer made it all worth it. A great west coast IPA. I’m giving my score for the brewpub version. Hopefully I’m not just freaking out and they tweak the can recipe to match up better with it.
