I like the sweet, chocolatey, malasses type, as opposed to this which is more dry and raosty. Not bad though Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 13, 2004 This imperial stout pours with a black body topped by a medium thick, brown head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly seet and malty yet bitter and roasty with slight licorice notes and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is bitter yet sweet, roasty and coffeeish one minute, then full of anise the next. The finish is chocolatey and roasty. Full bodied, smooth and warming. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 12, 2004 dark but not 100% opaque; very little head..vert faint chocolate and port wine aromas...subtle chocolate flavors, but seriously, this has the complexity of the movie "daddy day care" and i didnt even see that movie. Very weak palate for an imperial...maybe some grassy bitterness in the background...but seriously, imperial stouts need to be complex. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 27, 2004 Sampled at the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The Hendricks poured with a mild brown vivacity with a headless appearance begging to be sniffed. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, alcohol, vanilla spices, and grape soda were apparent. The taste begins very bitterly but end minorly acidic. Definite notes of coffee with a tea leaf and woody undertone. Definitely some heavy carbonation in here, somewhat un-imperial like..thus the mention of the grapes...it was like an alcoholic grape soda. The alcohol begins to really show near the end. Dry towards the bottom, somewhat tough to get a grasp on. Would like to re-sample the next time around, thats for sure. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA

On the pour a pitch-black color with a massive chocolate brown head that was creamy in consistency and as it eroded a nice sheet of lace formed upon the glass. Nose is coffee, rich sweet chocolate; quite pleasing to the nose as well as the eye, front is rich chocolate sweet malt with the top full and rich. Finish is moderately acidic and the hops powerful but pleasing to the palate, bitter-sweet chocolate dry aftertaste, a nice drinking stout
