Draught, 21st Amendment. Head is light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin, apricot), with notes of vanilla, maple syrup, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. I could do without the hops in the nose, but overall it’s pretty nice and rich.

Draft @ 21st Amendment for Strong Ale Month 2008. Poured a very deep brown, but not opaque with a beige head. The aroma had big roasty notes, a fair amount of coffee and light ash. The malt was sweet. The flavor had less coffee thankfully and was fairly roasty. While it had a medium body it did seem to finish thin. Moderately bitter finish.

Black color. Medium Head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are choclately with a touch of coffee. Hops are drying and slightly spicy. This is really more of a dry stout than an imperial, the body is a little thinner and it finishes very dry. Smooth taste, with no touch of alcohol bite. Touches of wood and smoke at the finish, Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

On tap @ 21st Amendment poured a nearly opaque dark brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt, bitter chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of espresso, roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.

Sampled @ Strong Ale Fest San Diego

On the pour a pitch-black color with a massive chocolate brown head that was creamy in consistency and as it eroded a nice sheet of lace formed upon the glass. Nose is coffee, rich sweet chocolate; quite pleasing to the nose as well as the eye, front is rich chocolate sweet malt with the top full and rich. Finish is moderately acidic and the hops powerful but pleasing to the palate, bitter-sweet chocolate dry aftertaste, a nice drinking stout

This imperial stout pours with a black body topped by a medium thick, brown head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly seet and malty yet bitter and roasty with slight licorice notes and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is bitter yet sweet, roasty and coffeeish one minute, then full of anise the next. The finish is chocolatey and roasty. Full bodied, smooth and warming.

02.19.05 tap at brewpub Nearly black pour with sticky brown head. Big, roasty, burnt aromas. Dry, not very full bodied. Very bitter in a dry way. Little alcohol presence. Anise. Average.
