502Flavors (506), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jul 3, 2009 A pricey 750 ml bottle that i have been looking forward to for quite a while. Well, here we finally go. Poured into snifter at cellar temp 55F to celebrate rating #500. Upon taking the foil off I can already smell this stuff (cork still in... a synthetic cork too, what the hell is up with that?). Pours a beautiful raspberry ruby red with a slight purple hue and a small pink head that took a bit of aggression to stir up, and which faded pretty quickly to a pink ring. Aroma is very fresh and funky - smells like bitter tart cherries upfront followed by sweet and very enticing fresh raspberries. The typical 3F musty, funky, wild character is there as well, and works great with the fruity aroma. The flavor lacks the sweetness hinted at in the aroma but is still very pleasant. Bitter tart raspberries upfront that lend to the funky barnyard character that follows through the moderately dry and acidic finish. Very well blended. Not one of the IN-YOUR-FACE lambics, but there is much to appreciate in the subtleties and the freshness of the fruity quality of this one. Medium bodied with meidum to minimal carbonation, which to me is PERFECT for this style. Overcarbonation -despite ebing a standard quality for many lambics- is a turn off to me. Overall: this is a beautifully crafted beer. At its price, it is worth purchasing to split with someone, but I am not sure I will ever be having this one again unless it comes to me as a gift. Very glad I invested though to try it at least once. Cheers to 500 more!! CharlesDarwin (1684), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2009 750mL Bottle. 02.14.2007. Nose is absolutely strong. Tart, dry,
funky, and dried cranberries. The merging of fruit and weirdness
produces a unique emergence of red currents and vinous black
cherries. Flinty. Pours a well clouded dark red and a rosey rim.
Flavor is intense. Chewy ghost-like red fruit character. A blood of
oranges, fresh cranberries, red currant jelly, plout juice, and some
tangy very, very faint acetic nip. Cottony barrel, a bit of white
grape juice and some long legs in port-like character. The acids are
much, much softer than say a Gueze. Not a huge finish. Pretty quickly
heading in to fruit lambic history. But, amazingly delicious with a
light nip of almond in the backend. rickgordon (3207), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 1, 2009 Bottled.
Cloudy red colour, with small pinkish head. Fresh raspberries dominate the aroma, whereas the acid comes second. Flavourwise, acid is most prominent, with earth and raspberries coming after. It’s dry and tart, with a fresh raspberry feel to it. Good sparkling, with surprisingly mellow mouthfeel. frylock (977), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 23, 2009 Bottle courtesy of rudolf: Magenta colored body topped by a thin white head. Great aroma that is full of raspberries, dusty earthiness and barnyard notes. Nicely balanced sourness. Bright raspberry flavors with just a touch of sweetness and faint oak flavors. Excellent. swoopjones (1484), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 21, 2009 Bottle at Rudolf’s Lambic tasting 2009. Pours a ruby red with small white head. Funky, musty aroma with light raspberry fruitiness thrown in. Taste was berry tartness, light funk, juice, acidic, right amount of sourness. Very well done KAggie97 (2232), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Jun 10, 2009 Bottle from MaltOMeal at the Houston sour tasting. Thanks, man! Pours an average muddy, iced tea brown with a nose of body odor and cedar. Flavor is sour cedar-infused fruit with wooden planks in the finish. Average mouthfeel. Refreshing beer. MatSciGuy (584), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Jun 7, 2009 [Bottle] from ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad!! Pours a clear deep pink with a small, effervescent pink head. I can smell raspberry jam from about two feet away, and undeniable sharpness that hints at the tart lactic acidity. As it warms, the brett character becomes evident as well. The flavor is absolutely amazing. Loads of juicy raspberries, crazy acidity and tartness, just enough funk, and a touch of dry oakiness. Crazy, crazy delicious, and one that I can see aging really well. Immy (1902), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA May 26, 2009 C&C 750 at Monk’s in Philly, shared with JCB and MrBendo. Bottle dats Feb. 14, 2007. OMG. LOVED IT! Cloudy, dirty red with a pink tinged head. Big raspberry nose, acidic, musty woodiness, some citrusy (lime?) notes. Funky raspberry flavors, tart, cherry finally makes an appearance, woody... just a whole lot going on here! Absolutely delish!
