bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA May 29, 2008 Bottle. Rich reddish-purple beer with an off-white head. Dusty, raspberry, earthy, tart aroma. Tart, raspberry, duty flavor that turns sour. Medium body. Lingering earthy notes with raspberry and a nice sourness. Great complexity and very refreshing. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 27, 2008 Updated: Feb 13, 2009Bottle shared by miketd at lb4lb’s tasting. Poured a deep pink color with a thin, fizzy pink head. Aroma of tart, sour cherries and some berry, but not in the most appealing way. Some yeast also. Flavor is pretty tart with strong flavors of raspberry and sour cherry, some barnyard funk, and a light yeastiness on the finish. Crisp and moderately dry. Pretty nice beer. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA May 27, 2008 Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with a ruby red body topped by a medium thick to thick head with some lacing. It’s tart and sour with a nice funk and notes of raspberry. Light bodied, crisp and smooth. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA May 26, 2008 Pours red/amber with a soft pink head. Tart raspberry and dose of funk to the aroma. Darn, there was a great quote tonight about the funk in this, but I can’t quite remember it. The berry flavor was very fresh, like a not quite rip raspberry, sort of tart and very mildly sour. Not very acidic, but a good dry earthiness. Jerre (1755), Waregem, Belgium May 25, 2008 75 cl . Aroma fruity, malts.

Taste bit sweet, sour, almost perfect, fruits, malts.
1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA May 22, 2008 Bottled on 2/14/2007. Thanks Matt! The beer pours to a deep ruby garnet body with a super rapid dissipating head. The aroma is really complex with a raspberry puree and leather mixed with sour yeasts. Light sugary candy and some cherry juice. The flavor is leathery puckery cherry and raspberry juice with interesting barnyard components. The palate is really nice. Not overly tart or acidic but perfectly balanced between the two. Nice texture in the mouthfeel and perfect carbonation. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 20, 2008 2/14/207 Bottle shared by Matt. No head and very little carbonation. Funky raspberries and sharp acetic acid in the nose. Light acidic barn / raspberry flavor. Sour but there wasn’t a good complexity to the beer. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA May 8, 2008 Bottle (Feb 07 bottling).
Head is initially small, fizzy, pink, fully diminishing.
Body is hazy medium reddish-purple, bottle conditioned.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately yeasty (horseblanket, barnyard, cobwebs), with notes of raspberry and cherry, light notes of band-aid, sour apple, and wood.
Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately to heavily acidic.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, lightly bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation.
I rarely say this, but that’s because I rarely believe it’s true: this will probably benefit greatly from another couple of years in the bottle. Although the aroma is very enticing and vibrant, it’s pretty fruit-forward right now, as with young wine (and priced like the latter as well, at least in the States...$35 a bottle here in Colorado). I would also ideally want a smidge less sweetness and a smidge more tartness. These are nits...it’s great stuff as-is to be sure. And given a few years for the fruits to fade a bit and some aged characters to take their place, I have little doubt that it will gain more depth and breadth.
